About Marcus Miller:
Marcus Miller is an American jazz composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He best known and a jazz funk bassist. Marcus Miller was born in Queens (New York City) and raised by Caribbean parents. He has worked with trumpeter Miles Davis, pianist Herbie Hancock, singer Luther Vandross, and saxophonist David Sanborn and many more.
Miller spent over a decade and half working as a session musician. “From 1979-1981 he was a member of the Saturday Night Live band 1979-1981. He co-wrote Aretha Franklin's "Jump To It" along with Luther Vandross. He has played bass on over 500 recordings including those of Luther Vandross, Grover Washington Jr., Donald Fagen, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, David Sanborn, Frank Sonatra,[Roberta Flack]], Carly Simon, McCoy Tyner, Weldon Irvine, Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol. He won the "Most Valuable Player" award (given by NARAS to recognize studio musicians) three years in a row and was subsequently awarded "player emeritus" status and retired from eligibility.
