Hiking in Austria is a great experience. On this beautiful day in mid March I went to the Kurpark in Baden near Vienna, a nice mix of city park and forest. The park is mainly a spot for the locals to relax and enjoy nature. However, for visitors its also a memorable tourist destination.
While the lower part of the Kurpark next to the old town center has a traditional layout and is surrounded by many historic buildings, the other part features a natural landscape covered by forest.
If you follow the trails leading up the hill you will eventually end up at the Theresienwarte, a lookout tower overlooking the whole city. What's special about this place is that this hill is basically right at the edge of the alps. From here you have a fantastic view of the lowlands stretching to the east, all the way towards the border with Hungary.
So if you happen to travel to Vienna and want to experience some nice Austrian landscape without having to go to far, Baden near Vienna is a great place for a day trip. Whilen Baden with its rich culture and historic town center is great for sightseeing, the Kurpark offers a little bit of adventure.

Forest hike in 4k: Covid-19 is still going strong in Austria. But the weather was nice and warm, and so I decided to going for a walk in the woods. I have never been in this place before and I was pleasently surprised by its beauty.
Luckily, I recorded this forest hike using my 4k camera. The place was dreamy, as if it came straight out of a fairy tale. The sunlight was breaking through the trees, the ground was covered with fresh green grass. Birds were singing and there was no other sound. The path led me downhill until I finally reached a small meadow with a calm brook running by.
I had a great time and I am happy that I can share this wonderful experience with you. I hope you enjoyed my forest hike in 4k, too!

The last few days have been way too nice to spend them inside the house. That's why I decided to escape the COVID-19 quarantine and go for a long, nice walk in the woods.
Sunshine, clean and fresh air, the sounds of a gentle breeze and birds chirping. It was a very relaxing ecperience. So if you are also feeling that you need to escape the quarantine a little bit, join me on this walk!

Dobra Stronghold is an abandoned castle ruin in Austria, located at a beautiful lake. Built in the 12th century, its main purpose was to defend the area from invading enemies. The castle was abandoned in the 19th century and is now open for visitors.
I was able to explore most parts of this abandoned castle ruin, except for the keep for which you need a key that you can get at a nearby campground. It's safe to walk around due to the efforts of a dedicated group of locals who repair and maintain the castle's remains.

Krems castle was built in the 13th century is among the oldest structures in the old town of Krems an der Donau. From the castle, I walk on the so called Wachtberg, a nice residential area on a nearby hill. Following the road, I reach a viewpoint which offers a fantastic view of the whole city.

Exploring the medieval church of St. Michael Village in the Wachau Valley. This fortified church was first mentioned around the year 987. It is located at a bottleneck between the Danube river and a cliff. In addition there are fortifications like walls and a tower which made the church a choke point for invaders.
In the video I walk around the surroundings of this medieval church in the Wachau Valley. After exploring the tower I visit the cemetery and take a look inside the church. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to enter the church which also has a bone house that is home to an altar which has human skulls on display.
I hope you still enjoy this little trip on a sunny day! Check out this map showing the locations of all of my Video walks: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1JIZyQ5c26D0VwCHHwGKvnQ2w6_uUzqDv&ll=48.07809510471982%2C14.863358199999993&z=8

In this video, I enjoy some river walking on a hot summer afternoon. The river Schwechat in Lower Austria is a tributary to the Danube river. Before reaching the Danube it runs through a narrow valley with dense forest. Here it is a favorite spot for the locals to relax. The river is not very deep - ideal for children and cooling off in summer.
Because the water is quite shallow this part of the river is also perfectly suitable for exploration on foot. The scenery is simply beautiful with the sun breaking through the trees and the light being reflected by the moving water.
