THEME: GOD CAN GIVE US MORE THAN WE ASK FOR READINGS: 1 Kings 17:10-16/ Hebrews 9: 24-28/ Mark 12:38-44 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Holy Scripture praises God for being ‘able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think’ (Eph. 3:20). Indeed, God can do far more than we expect or can imagine! The stories of the two poor widows in today’s first and gospel readings underscore the fact that God is ‘able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think’ ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4Jsr2QJ6nk

THEME: THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
READINGS: Deut. 8:2-3, 14-16/ 1 Cor. 10:16-17/ John 6:51-58
Solemnity of Corpus Christi
As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, so much goes into disinfecting the interior of a church building as well as its external environment before we could congregate for worship. In addition, we have to wash our hands with soap under running water, sanitize our hands, wear facemasks and observe social distancing. All these protocols are to be observed so that we are not infected by the coronavirus.
Beloved, if we put into so much effort and investment in order to prevent ourselves from that which is detriment to our physical health, then we should put in much more effort to prepare our hearts and minds to receive Holy Communion which gives us inestimable spiritual benefits.
Furthermore, though we cannot see the virus with our naked eyes, we do so much to avoid its infection. Similarly, though we may not see the Lord whom we receive in Holy Communion, let us put in a lot of effort to get our hearts and minds sanitized before receiving Him.
Again, only under the appropriate microscope can we see the coronavirus. Similarly, only under the microscope of faith can we appreciate the body and blood of Christ received in Holy Communion. This is a key lesson of the Solemn Feast of Corpus Christi which we celebrate today. The Latin term ‘Corpus Christi’ means the body of Christ; and it is short form of the expression, ‘the body and blood of Christ’.
Beloved, in Holy Communion, we received not just blessed bread and blessed wine nor simply symbolic bread and wine, but the very body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. To appreciate what we receive under the microscope of faith, let us begin with John Chapter 6, from which we took today’s gospel reading.
John 6 tells us that the day after the multiplication of loaves to feed the 5,000 men, Jesus told the crowd that they should look not for the food that perishes but for that which gives eternal life. Then, when the people requested for this bread of life, Jesus told them that He is the bread of life that has come down from heaven. They then started grumbling. But Jesus’ further statements were to shock the people the more: ‘If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever. The bread that I will give him is my flesh, which I give so that the world may live. This started an angry argument among them. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked. Jesus said to them, “I am telling you the truth if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, y

THEME: THE SPIRIT MOVES AS HE WISHES
READINGS: Numbers 11:25-29 / James 5:1-6/ Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48
26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Joshua thought that the spirit upon Moses would be bestowed on only the seventy elders at the tent of meeting (Num. 11:25-29). Similarly, in the gospel reading, the Apostle John thought that only the apostles and other close companions of Jesus Christ had the gift of the Spirit to cast out demons. However, both Joshua and St. John were wrong, for the Spirit of the Lord moves or acts as he wishes. He cannot in any way be controlled by our wishes, thoughts and hopes. The Spirit of the Lord is bigger than even our faith, for he is divine.

THEME: BEYOND OUR EXPECTATIONS AND IMAGINATIONS
READINGS: 2 Kings 4:42-44/ Ephesians 4:1-6 / John 6:1-15
17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Holy Scripture praises God for being ‘able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think’ (Ephesians 3:20). Indeed, God can do far more than we expect or can imagine! A few instances of God providing more than expected or imagined are given in the first and gospel readings.
In the first case, the man from Baal-Shalishah thought that the hundred men needed more than twenty barley loaves (each smaller than the size of the fist of an average adult) to be satisfied. However, Elisha, the man of God, thought otherwise. Believing in the infinite power of his God, Elisha insisted: ‘Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the Lord says: “They will eat and have some left over”’ (2 Kings 4:43). When the man eventually obeyed Elisha, his expectation as well as that of the hundred men were exceeded (2 Kings 4:44).

THEME: CHRIST WILL COME AS KING AND JUDGE
READINGS: Ezek. 34:11-12, 15-17 / 1 Cor. 15:20-26, 28 / Matthew 25:31-46
Solemnity of Christ the King
Today is the last Sunday of the Church’s liturgical year. As the liturgical year draws to a close, the Church reminds us that the world will likewise one day come to an end with the coming of Jesus Christ in His royal majesty. Hence, the Church celebrates every last Sunday of the liturgical year as the solemn feast of Christ the King.
CHRIST THE KING
According to today’s gospel reading, Christ will come again as a King in glory, accompanied by the angels (cf. Matt. 25:31). Indeed, He will come as the King of kings! On that day, all people including all kings and presidents, dead and alive, believers and nonbelievers, will bow and acknowledge Christ as the King of kings and the Lord of lords!
Yes, He who is coming is great. Indeed, He is the greatest! Christ is greater than all and has power to defeat and subject all powers of darkness. Thus, the second reading says that Jesus will defeat every sovereignty, authority, power as well as the evil of death (1 Cor. 15:25-28).
Beloved, I pray that while we await His glorious second coming, Christ the all-powerful King of kings, will destroy any power of darkness we encounter in our lives. Amen!

THEME: GOD DESIRES TO SAVE ALL
READINGS: Isaiah 56:1, 6-7 / Romans 11:13-15, 29-32/ Matthew 15:21-28
20th Sunday in Ordinary Time
God desires to save all men, women, and children (cf. 1 Tim. 2:4). That is, the offer of God’s salvation in Jesus Christ is for all. Access to this offer of salvation is through faith in God and obedience to Him. This is a message which runs through the three readings of today.
The experiences of the Jews while in exile in Babylon and of how God delivered them and brought them back to their land changed their perspective on an aspect of God’s salvation – namely, that God’s salvation is not limited to a particular people. One of their experiences was the fact that the gentile king of Babylon praised God of Israel when He delivered the three young Jews from the fiery furnace. The gentile king acknowledged that God is almighty, and he decreed that all the peoples of the nations in his empire should revere the God. (Daniel 3:91-100). Another experience was that God delivered the Jews from exile through Cyrus, the gentile King of Babylon; and God used this gentile King to facilitate the rebuilding of the Temple of Jerusalem (Ezra 1:1-11).
With such experiences, God inspired the Jews to come to the realization that His salvation is offered to peoples of all nations and races who have faith in Him and obey Him. Thus, when the Jews had returned from exile, the prophet proclaimed to them: “Thus says the Lord: ‘Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come …. Let not the foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord say, the Lord will surely separate me from his people…. And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord, to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants … these I will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer …’” (Isaiah 56:1-7, RSV; first reading).

THEME: LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT!
READINGS: Acts 10:25–26, 34–35, 44–48 / 1 John 4:7–10/ John 15: 9–17
6th Sunday of Easter
Coming Thursday will be the solemn feast of the Ascension of the risen Lord Jesus Christ. On that solemn day, our Lord assured the Apostles of the empowerment by the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:1-11). Ten days after the Ascension of our Lord, that is, on the day of Pentecost, the promised Holy Spirit descended in a spectacular way to empower the Apostles. Then, sometime later (according to today’s first reading from Acts 10), the same Holy Spirit descended on the household of Cornelius, a Gentile (Roman) soldier, who was not a disciple of Jesus during His earthly ministry.
