This is a talk I gave in Calgary, Alberta on Mar 25, 2017, for a political action group, Generation Screwed. I wrote it out, and read it, which I rarely do, because I was developing a new argument, and wanted to ensure I made it properly. During the talk, I discuss the increasingly widespread demands for so-called "equity," or equality of outcome. This the most dangerous idea that the postmodern neo-Marxists have yet championed. Equity cannot be attained, even if it was desirable, because there is no limit to the ways in which people can be categorized. Race, sex, gender identity, and sexual proclivity -- the current contenders for primacy of identity among the radical activist leftists -- are no more valid as categories of human beings than attractiveness, personality, political belief, intelligence, health status, or economic class. Thus, the demand for equity can never be met.
The equity authoritarians must be stopped. Now. There are few doctrines as dangerous to the rights of individual citizens or to social institutions. Learn the arguments. Push back. Now.

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson is joined by the late author and commentator Rex Murphy, who guides us through the boundless Canadian province of Newfoundland. Between complete isolation and the cutting edge of history and modernity, its people and culture stand resilient. Our hosts journey from port to port, taking in the unrivaled beauty while discussing John Cabot’s historic arrival, modern day challenges of the fishing industry, breakthroughs in both spirit and science, and the awe-inspiring kindness shown by Gander residents after September 11, which captured hearts and minds all across the globe.
Dedicated to Rex Murphy, a true friend of Canada
Rex Murphy was thoroughly Canadian: a writer and commentator who centered much of his work on the country that he loved. First gaining attention in 1965 for a speech given at Memorial University, he called Newfoundland’s then-Premier Joey Smallwood “dictatorial,” launching him as a voice against tyranny. For 21 years, Rex regularly hosted CBC Radio One’s Cross Country Checkup and published a column in the Saturday edition of the Globe and Mail. Rex was seen, heard, and listened to by millions of Canadians for decades. Much of his writing and opinions have been preserved in published books such as 2003’s “Points of View” and 2009’s “Canada and Other Matters of Opinion.” Always considerate of those who he could help, Rex was humble, grounded, and full of wit — traits that continually brought admirers to hear his commentary. A lifetime lover of his country, Rex was a valiant man of his words who bravely said what he believed throughout his life until the very end. He passed on May 9, 2024, at the age of 77.

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with public speaker and mental health advocate Aaron Stark. You might recognize Aaron's name from his deeply impactful TED Talk, “I was almost a school shooter.” They walk through his life story and discuss the all-too-real result of deep parental trauma, the psychology of abuse that shapes self loathing and self harm, the drivers that nearly pushed Aaron from victim into monster, and the real, tangible act of kindness that saved lives.
Aaron Stark was almost a school shooter. As a dark and destructive teen, Stark almost committed a terrible attack. Today he is a happy father of four, and he wants to do all he can to help anyone on that path to find a way into the light again and to see that they matter.
After watching the news coverage of the Parkland school shootings, Stark wrote an open letter, “I was almost a school shooter.” This was sent to local news 9KUSA in Denver and was the feature story on “Next with Kyle Clark.” This story gained national attention and over 17 million views in a very short time, which propelled him into a life of activism for mental wellness awareness. He has been featured on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and has published an article in the Washington Post. These features were followed by his viral TEDx talk, “I Was Almost a School Shooter” that currently has over 14 million views and is shown in schools, colleges, and universities, all the way up to the Dept. of Education.

Dr. Jordan Peterson’s guest Mohamedou Ould Slahi shares his experience with more than a decade of torture and depression in Guantánamo Bay. Mohamedou starts with his childhood and guides us through his journey across Germany and Canada. The life-changing phone call and his hard-to-hear torture sessions are shared as he explains the change he experienced in his beliefs. Check out this episode to listen to how his 14 years of pain ended.
Mohamedou Ould Slahi was detained for 14 years at Guantanamo Bay detention camp without charge.
