The FT3D and the FT2D have a function called backtrack. What it does is allow you to store a point in space in your FT3D. Then at any time as your moving around, you can see that point relative to you. So you can see the distance away from it, as well as direction. This may prove to be very helpful during outdoor activities or hikes.

This video is really a vlog about what's going on in my life, and just me getting thoughts out there on things I've been thinking about recently.
Not very Ham radio related, but I hope you enjoy it regardless.

We do a lot of APRS ( automatic packet reporting system ) on this channel, and the FT-3D is an awesome APRS rig.
It comes with a built in GPS, and a 1200bps, and 9600bps APRS modem.
This video goes into detail with every setting, from sending beconds to digipeaters, and igates, as well as sending and receiving APRS messages.
All of the content here also applies to the previous model, the FT2DR.

This is a video demonstration on using the FTM-100, or the FTM-100dr for APRS. I also show how to send a text message using APRS using the SMSGTE Callsign.

Thanks to Chameleon Antennas for sending me this unit for review. I will always give honest feedback. I took this antenna out on the video for a POTA(Parks on the air) activation to give it a good field test for the video.
This antenna is great for those of you who want to use high power on the go, but still want to keep your backpack weight low. It's also a great antenna for those who run without a tuner and need a resonant antenna. It may not be the first choice for the QRP operators out there though who never intend on going over 20 Watts.
You can purchase the antenna used in the video here:

This is a video demonstration on how you can use VBAudioCable to decode digital HF signals like FT8, SSTV, and more without any radio or an antenna.
It works by sending audio from your speakers to a virtual microphone port. We can tune a webSDR, and play the audio straight into applications like WSFT-X and MMSSTV and more.
VBAudioCable can be downloaded here:
https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/
We are using a webSDR to pipe the audio into the software. You can find a HF Radio on this website:
http://www.websdr.org/
There are many digital ham radio modes you can do this with, so do let me know what fun things you used it for in the comments below.

Wanted to talk about a little project I've been working on to get some pretty old hardware up as a old school packet radio BBS node. In the video, I have a Commodore SX-64, the first "portable" computer with a color monitor, as it was from 1983. Attached to it a a MFJ-1278 TNC2 working as an HF packet node connected to an FT-891. The TNC can also do RTTY as well as SSTV. In the video I connected to another users JNOS BBS node and left them a message.

Let me know what packet was like for you before the internet. Did you Use a Commodore 64, or one of these old TNCs?

Today we are walking through the steps of setting up a YSFReflector on Debian Linux.
We cover installation, running, and setting up the Dashboard Web Server.
We then go into Registering your reflector online and connecting to it through pi-star.
You can also use this reflector with the openspot, and openspot2.
