I recorded this song 14 years ago. I was only 20 years old. It was recorded shortly after 9/11 took place, and shortly after my friend Marcus Thomas (RIP) was shot dead at his home in the middle of the night. The police found a small amount of marijuana in his home, which he had for personal use, and labelled him a thug drug dealer, closed the case and never caught the person responsible for his murder. When I listened to this song again for the first time in years I was surprised at how relevant most of my lyrics still are today. I was also surprised how conscious I was of certain things back then, as you hear in the song, even though I was still asleep in many ways and primarily concerned with societal status, street credibility, partying, sex, money and material things. I always had the revolutionary spirit within me, and the raw talent for rap, it just took time and much hardship for me to achieve my true potential.
