# ***The Blur Biography***
***Blur*** are an English rock band, formed in *[London](https://cutt.ly/lIPfkyL)* in 1988. The group consists of singer ***[Damon Albarn](https://cutt.ly/kIOpffK)***, guitarist ***[Graham Coxon](https://cutt.ly/MIOpgnF)***, bassist ***[Alex James](https://cutt.ly/oIOpkoU)*** and drummer ***[Dave Rowntree](https://cutt.ly/2IOpxaQ)***.
Following an image makeover in the mid-'90s, the group emerged as the most popular band in the U.K., establishing itself as heir to the English guitar pop tradition of ***[The Kinks](https://cutt.ly/fIPfT16)***, ***[The Small Faces](https://cutt.ly/KIPfOYh)***, ***[The Who](https://cutt.ly/FIPfJK5)***, ***[The Jam](https://cutt.ly/XIPglkh)***, ***[Madness](https://cutt.ly/CIPgCC3)***, and ***[The Smiths](https://cutt.ly/GIPg0k0)***. In the process, the group broke down the doors for a new generation of guitar bands that became labelled as *[britpop](https://cutt.ly/dIPg7M8)*.
Through some reinvention, ***Blur*** reclaimed their position as an art pop band in the late '90s by incorporating *indie rock* and *lo-fi* influences, which finally gave them their elusive American success in 1997.
But the band's legacy remained in Britain, where they helped revitalise *guitar pop* by skillfully updating the country's pop traditions.
> Continuing the stylistic shift away from the britpop sound of the band's early career, ***Blur’s*** sixth studio album, ***“13”*** explores experimental, *psychedelic* and *electronic* music.
> Lyrically, the album is significantly darker and more innovative than band’s previous efforts, being heavily inspired by ***Albarn's*** breakup with long-term girlfriend, ***[Justine Frischmann](https://cutt.ly/oIGnYHN)*** ***[("Elastica")](https://cutt.ly/EIMHztd)***.
>
> ***”13”*** is a strange, frustrating combination of expert musicianship and self-indulgence that reveals the sound of a band trying to find itself. With some closer editing, this could have been the emotionally deep, sonically wide album ***Blur*** yearns to make.

***”The Cardigans”*** are a Swedish rock band formed in Jönköping, Sweden, in 1992 by guitarist ***[Peter Svensson](https://cutt.ly/SvRKLps)***, bassist ***[Magnus Sveningsson](https://cutt.ly/bvRLXDh)***, drummer ***[Bengt Lagerberg](https://cutt.ly/zvRLM53)***, keyboardist ***[Lars-Olof Johansson](https://cutt.ly/rvRL7Yj)*** and lead singer ***[Nina Persson](https://cutt.ly/WvRZtjw)***. Post-hiatus shows since 2012 have been with ***Oskar Humlebo*** on guitar instead of Svensson.
***”The Cardigans”*** are one of the most pleasing pop groups of the alternative era, started when guitarist ***Peter Svensson*** met bassist ***Magnus Sveningsson** in a hardcore group, though he had previously trained in music theory and jazz arranging. The two later grew tired of metal and decided to form a pop band with vocalist ***Nina Persson*** - an art-school friend who had never sung professionally.
***”Life”*** is the ***”The Cardigans”*** second studio album, released worldwide in 1995 and was an international success, especially in Japan, where it achieved platinum status.
Where ***"Emmerdale"*** studied an introverted melancholy, ***"Life"*** is undiminished in both its independent-minded exuberance (***"Hey! Get Out of My Way"***) and zest to enjoy life with others (***"Daddy's Car"***, ***"Gordon's Gardenparty"***).
The incredible production and quality of arrangement from the debut are here also, even more strikingly crisp and spot-on. (Over 50 instruments were used on the 14 songs included on the ***[Minty Fresh](https://cutt.ly/PvUPhOl)*** American release.)
Though the ***Cardigans*** planned ***"Life"*** as something of a joke, it became one of the finest pop albums of the '90s.

# ***Kelli Ali Biography***
British songwriter and guitarist, formerly the lead singer of pioneering 90s *trip-hop* band ***[Sneaker Pimps](https://cutt.ly/XEqZja5)***, ***Kelli Ali (Kelli Dayton)***, after lefting the band in the late '90s, began working on her own music, collaborating with ***[Dido](https://cutt.ly/8EqL7W7)*** producer ***[Rick Nowels](https://cutt.ly/TEqZrt9)*** and ***[Primal Scream](https://cutt.ly/KEqZy1y)*** contributor ***[Jagz Kooner](https://cutt.ly/JEqZom9)***.
Before ***Sneaker Pimps***, ***Ali*** was part of a group called ***Psycho Drama***, which she joined when she was 16 years old. A few years later, she was asked by ***[Russell Cross](https://cutt.ly/AEqXgnp)*** of the band ***The Lumieres*** to join his band (as their songwriter, singer, and lead guitarist).
With the **SP** she was featured prominently in both the songs and the music videos for the album ***“[Becoming X](https://cutt.ly/9EqXLkX)”*** (the group finding fame following the release of the hit single ***"[6 Underground](https://cutt.ly/tEqXC3X)"***).
In 2000, she signed a recording deal with ***[One Little Indian](https://cutt.ly/iEqXNRj)***, to embark on a diverse / adventurous career, in which she's explored numerous genres, in her endeavours to create original songs & music.
> ***“Tigermouth”*** (so named for the lead singer's unique canine teeth dentition) was ***Ali’s*** first solo album, recorded primarily in *[Los Angeles](https://cutt.ly/iEqV39k)* at the home studios of hit-making producer ***Rick Nowels***.
> He knack with radio-friendly hooks and the sunny climate of L.A. clearly informed ***“Tigermouth”*** which is a *bright*, *lush* and unabashedly *pop-oriented* record.
>
> However, because of this new sound and her high-profile collaborators, some in the British press dismissed the album as a blatant grab for "mainstream" success.
>
> ***Ali*** herself responded to this criticism a year later on her website. She said that nothing could have been further from her mind... “For the sake of ease and sales, it is easier for the media to "understand" what it is they're selling but rest assured, I make music with all my heart and soul without any commercial interest whatsoever and I am glad that I made ***“Tigermouth”*** when and how and with whom I made it. The doubters may kiss my sorry ass”.

***"The Smiths"***were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. Consisting of vocalist ***[Morrissey](https://cutt.ly/7vnQKtF)***, guitarist ***[Johnny Marr](https://cutt.ly/XvnQXo2)***, bassist ***[Andy Rourke](https://cutt.ly/yvnQVIJ)***, and drummer ***[Mike Joyce](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Joyce_(musician))***,
critics consider the band one of the most important to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s.
Based on the songwriting partnership of Morrissey and Marr, the Smiths' focus on a guitar, bass, and drum sound, and fusion of 1960s rock and post-punk, were a rejection of the synthesiser-based dance-pop of the time. The friction between Morrissey and Marr resulted in a flurry of singles and albums over the course of three years that provided the blueprint for British guitar rock in the following decade.
**”The Smiths”***, the band's debut studio album, on the surface, the sound wasn't radically different from traditional British guitar pop, but it was actually an astonishing subversion of the form, turning the structure inside out.
Morrissey had a distinctively ironic, witty, and literate viewpoint whose strangeness was accentuated by his off-kilter voice, which would move from a croon to a yelp in a matter of seconds, pop, and Marr's ringing, layered guitars were catchy and melodic.
While the production of ***”The Smiths”*** is a little pristine, the songs are vital and alive, developing a new, unique voice within pop music.
***“The Hand That Rocks the Cradle”*** is the fifth song on the **Smiths** self-titled debut album, released on 20 February 1984 by **”[Rough Trade Records](https://cutt.ly/YvnQ9fS)”**.

***"R.E.M."*** was an American rock band from ***[Athens, Georgia](https://cutt.ly/NmRkghQ)***, formed in 1980 by drummer ***[Bill Berry](https://cutt.ly/AmRklXQ)***, guitarist ***[Peter Buck](https://cutt.ly/ymRkcq5)***, bassist ***[Mike Mills](https://cutt.ly/CmRknrO)***, and lead vocalist ***[Michael Stipe](https://cutt.ly/lmRkQn5)***, who were students at the University of Georgia.
Combining ringing guitar hooks with mumbled, cryptic lyrics and a D.I.Y. aesthetic borrowed from post-punk, the band simultaneously sounded traditional and modern.
While there were a number of hardcore and punk bands in the U.S. during the early '80s, ***"R.E.M."*** brought guitar pop back into the underground lexicon. The band marked the point when post-punk turned into alternative rock, and inspired countless bands, from the legions of jangle pop groups in the mid-'80s to scores of alternative pop groups in the '90s, who admired their slow climb to stardom.
While ***"[Fables of the Reconstruction](https://cutt.ly/OmPIZq5)"*** was intentionally murky, producer ***[Don Gehman](https://cutt.ly/rmOzhqy)***, constructed their next album,***"Lifes Rich Pageant"*** as its polar opposite. Where previous records kept the rhythm section in the background, ***"Pageant"*** emphasizes the beat, and the band turns in its hardest rockers to date.
The ecologically conscious ***"Fall on Me"*** and a cover of the ***"[Clique's](https://cutt.ly/zmObLma)"*** ***"[Superman](https://cutt.ly/rmAAxUB)"***, sung by bassist ***Mike Mills***, were the only singles released from the album.
The band sound more contemporary both musically and lyrically than they did on either ***Fables*** or ***[Murmur](https://cutt.ly/6mPIH1l)***, which helps give the record an extra kick. ***”R.E.M.”*** also shows that they can be a straight ahead rock band with the powerhouse rhythm section of ***Mills/Buck*** and ***Peter Buck*** who effortless changes between jangling guitar solos and riff rocking power chords.
***”The Flowers Of Guatemala”*** is the seventh song on the band’s fourth studio album ***"[Lifes Rich Pageant](https://cutt.ly/WmPIXWX)"***, released on July 28, 1986. under the ***”[I.R.S. Records](https://cutt.ly/rmRk1BH)”***.

***"Garbage"*** is an American rock band formed in 1993 in Madison, Wisconsin. The band's lineup - consisting of Scottish singer and musician ***[Shirley Manson](https://cutt.ly/1bBcrip)*** (vocals) and American musicians ***[Duke Erikson](https://cutt.ly/gbBcyPD)*** (guitar, bass, keyboards), ***[Steve Marker](https://cutt.ly/FbBcoiN)*** (guitar, keyboards), and ***[Butch Vig](https://cutt.ly/NbBxPnj)*** (drums, production) - has remained unchanged since its inception. All four members are involved in songwriting and production.
A native of Viroqua, Wisconsin, Vig learned to play piano as a child and drums as a teenager. After leaving college, he met future bandmate Erikson in the band ***"[Spooner](https://cutt.ly/NbBxPnj)"***.
But the ***"Garbage"*** become ***"Garbage"*** when band's door opens for Manson, who kicked off her music career at a young age, joining rock band ***"[Goodbye Mr. MacKenzie](https://cutt.ly/YbBcc7E)"***, and alt-rock foursome ***"[Angelfish](https://cutt.ly/2bBcQTI)"***. After a couple auditions, she formally joined ***"Garbage"*** as their lead singer in August 1994.
More diverse than their first two studio albums, musically more melodic and lyrically more direct, the band’s third album, ***"Beautiful Garbage"*** featured electronica fused with contemporary hip hop, with influences coming from 1980s new wave to 1960s girl groups.
***"Garbage"*** slogged through the trenches of alt-rock in the '80s, and they came together at the precise moment in the '90s when they could fashion modern-sounding music consciously picking up anything sonically interesting in the underground, crafting them together with skill and a keen commercial eye.
On their third record it's all more evident because of a more shiny, more sugary, and unabashedly pop coating.
It's unlikely to storm the charts like their first two records, especially since there aren't standout singles like on the earlier albums, but overall the record works better, perhaps their best album.
***“Parade”*** is the tenth song on Garbage third studio album ***”[Beautiful Garbage](https://cutt.ly/3b1klvj)”***, released on October 1, 2001, on ***“Mushroom Records”*** and ***“Interscope Records”***.
