One of the things that set Gnosticism apart from the other varieties of early Christianity was its astonishing creation myth, an interpretation of the creation myth of Genesis that practically turns that Old Testament text upside down. Some people find the Gnostic creation myth to be merely bizarre. Others find it to be downright blasphemous. Others find it to be exhilarating and inspiring. But whatever your opinion of the Gnostics’ creation myth ends up being, if you want to understand it on its own terms, it’s necessary to be able to at least temporarily see it as the Gnostics themselves saw it: as a story that articulates, and quite possibly even attempts to explain, the human condition. Why is the world we live in so full of senseless suffering? What can we do to overcome that absurdity and misery and put our lives to a meaningful use? Is this world where we really belong, or is the quiet despair that forms a constant background to our lives trying to tell us that we really belong somewhere else? And if so, where do we actually belong? The Gnostic creation myth has come down to us in numerous different versions in different Gnostic texts. It’s apparent that there was never a single, uniform version of the myth. But the different Gnostic accounts of creation that have survived down to the present day are variations on a common model, not different models altogether. To very briefly summarize that underlying model: God the Father gave rise to a host of spiritual beings (“aeons“) who populated Heaven (which the Gnostics called the Pleroma, “Fullness”), including a divine Mother and Christ. One of the last of these beings to emanate from the Father, Sophia, gave birth to a new being on her own, without the involvement of her partner or the approval of the Father. The being born under such circumstances was nothing like the perfect inhabitants of the Pleroma; instead, he was ignorant and malevolent. This was the demiurge, “craftsman,” whom the Gnostics identified with the god of the Old Testament. He created the material world to mirror his own wicked personality and trapped sparks of divinity, fragments of the Pleroma, within humans. It was then up to Christ to awaken humans to their true nature and liberate them from the world.

Let us take a look at the “human machine” such as a three-storied factory – head, chest, and lower part of the body. The food enters from the “top floor” (head) and passes to the lower floors as Hydrogen 768 (the DO of the food octave). Such food interacts in the body, according to the Law of Three, with other elements and becomes hydrogen 384, namely the RE key, and, successively, through further interactions, is transformed into hydrogen 192. What is of interest here, is to observe that the mechanical, natural process of the food transformation comes to a stalemate, just at the point that corresponds with the key MI. Indeed, it’s just here that, in the musical scale there’s an interval between the MI and FA; it’s a critical point in which the food-octave can’t develop further by itself. Such a point can be overcome only with an additional help, an energy, an event that we’ll define as shock. Here enters, to take charge, the second food, namely the air that, as hydrogen 192 (its note at this degree is DO) provokes a shock to the MI 192 in the octave-food, allowing it to become FA 96.
We’ll avoid specific passages because they would give an overly complicated explanation; so we’ll say that this process in the food-octave can continue until FA 12, and here it stops. There would be needed another shock produced from the third food – the impressions, but these that enter the human system as DO 48 can’t develop further. Why? Because, when they should enter in, there is no carbon – the active force, which could allow the process of transformation to continue. The natural process of transformation doesn’t supply the necessary quantity of carbon to produce an adequate effort. So, without such transformation, the octave-food stops at SI 12. Mainly, nature brings human development until a specific level. After this level, a human must develop by himself, intentionally. So to say, nature gives the possibility to a human to develop, but this process doesn’t happen in a mechanical way, by itself. Nature gives mechanical transformations so that a human being could survive. In order to develop, what is needed is an intentional effort. To summarize: what has been said about the food diagram, represents the first part of the process of transmutation which shows how the digestion (transformation of food) occurs in an ordinary man. In such an automatic part of the process, the octave-food begins from DO 768 to SI 12. During this process, three notes of the octave-air and one note of the octave- impressions, intervenes. The octave-air produces the mechanical shock which allows the system to overcome the first interval.

It is indeed possible Mandaeans are descendants of disciples of John the Baptist, who 2,000 years ago had a large number of followers which believed him to be a great Master and Prophet, if not the awaited Messiah. After John's death, the New Testament portrays Jesus as being the spiritual successor, but other leaders in John's community might have seen things differently. Like Jesus, others might also have claimed to be John's successor and thus would have become the leaders of a John-community that maintained its independence from the Jesus Movement, instead remaining what they were -- an unorthodox baptismal sect of the Trans-Jordan. The origins of the Mandaeans do go back to the Jewish tradition of first century AD Palestine and the region of the Jordan River. Eventually the community settled in the region of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, where they could continue the ritual of baptizing initiates in "living waters" (rivers) symbolizing the connecting of their souls with "heavenly Jordan rivers of Light." The role of the Heavenly Messenger is to give the mystic experience of light to souls and eventually guide them back up to the Place of Light, the Mandaean term for the highest heaven where the Great Life (God) resides. The mystical encounters recorded in the scriptures of the Mandaeans may seem at times like ancient near-death experiences (NDE's), the visions of souls who were embraced the Light long ago.

Boris Mouravieff was an enigmatic 'third man', known to Gurdjieff and Ouspensky, who found and learned to practice what he clearly believed to be the complete system of which only 'fragments' had been previously published in Ouspensky's In Search of the Miraculous. On this basis, he formed the 'Center for Christian Esoteric Studies' in Geneva - now closed. Many of his discoveries are described in his book Gnosis, which contains in its three volumes the fundamental components of that Christian esoteric teaching revealed by Ouspensky in fragmentary form. Boris Mouravieff taught Eastern Esotericism at Geneva University for many years, and Gnosis is the result of his teaching. Volume III of Boris Mouravieff’s Gnosis contains ancient keys to a tradition of Christian esotericism that was necessarily hermetized 1800 years ago and has since remained unpublished, surviving to the present only in unwritten form. For students who have read the first two volumes of this work, this final text will provide exact data making it possible to solve many of the practical problems attendant on spiritual practice under the pressures of everyday life in modern times. It also contains comments on certain related ideas seen from a viewpoint so foreign to our present era that it hints at a very different frame of mind from the everyday… so different that some people find it hard to accept, although it unravels many of the knotty points of theology and philosophy as well as certain key problems of our day.

Tobias Churton is Honorary Fellow of Exeter University, where he is faculty lecturer in Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry. The founding editor of the magazine Freemasonry Today, he holds a master's degree in Theology from Brasenose College, Oxford, and is the author of several books, including Gnostic Philosophy, The Magus of Freemasonry, and The Invisible History of the Rosicrucians. He speaks about John the Baptist, who is a towering figure in Christianity. Yet his prominence as a spiritual and political leader has been mostly written out by Orthodoxy. Beyond uncovering his remarkable existence, we discover how John is an important luminary in Gnosticism, Paganism, and many Secret Societies. And his profound legacy on esoteric spirituality.
Clementine Recognitions (1.54, 1.60), describe how the disciples of John felt that he was the Christ:"Yea, some even of the disciples of John, who seemed to be great ones, have separated themselves from the people, and proclaimed their own master as the Christ. But all these schisms have been prepared, that by means of them the faith of Christ and baptism might be hindered."
"And, behold, one of the disciples of John asserted that John was the Christ, and not Jesus, inasmuch as Jesus Himself declared that John was greater than all men and all prophets."
In John 8:48, Jesus is accused of being a Samaritan magician in control of a demon:"Then the Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?” Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. And I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks and judges.” Note: Jesus doesn’t deny being a Samaritan, but only having a demon. The Samaritans were associated with witchcraft.
The Babylonian Talmud also named Jesus a sorcerer who studied magic in Egypt (just as Simon in the Clementines). When Jesus finally returned, he was a highly educated young man full of heterodox ideas. In The Babylonian Talmud, specifically in Tosefta Shabbat 104b, we find an obscure figure by the name of “Ben Stada” or “Ben Sattadai” who is said to have had the “witchcraft of Egypt” (i.e. magic spells) tattooed on his flesh. (Scholars have identified Ben Stada as Jesus)
There are still followers of John the Baptist - the MANDAEANS. They say this about Jesus:
* John the Baptist is the true Christos
* Jesus was his disciple. But he became a traitor and changed and perverted the holy teachings. The Mandaeans call him a liar, a false prophet, a magician.
