On January 5, 2020, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Officer Nicholas Lawson (“OfficerLawson”) attempted to perform a traffic stop on a stolen car. The car fled at high speeds, hit another car and then ultimately crashed into a concrete pole of a pedestrian overpass. When Officer Lawson approached the suspect vehicle, the backseat passenger pointed a rifle at him. In fear for his life, Officer Lawson opened fire, wounding the backseat passenger who pointed the firearm at him and killing the front seat passenger, Kwame Jones. The details are as follows: On January 5, 2020, at 9:19 p.m., Officer Lawson attempted to perform a traffic stop on a stolen car for careless driving and taillight violations. Officer Lawson advised over the radio that he was in pursuit of a possibly impaired driver. After Officer Lawson turned on his emergency lights, the driver of the car sped off and turned off the headlights. The driver fled, drove into oncoming traffic at a speed of 70 mph1, ran a red light at Moncrief and 45th Street, struck another vehicle in the intersection, and crashed into a pedestrian overpass. When Officer Lawson arrived at the crash, he got out of his vehicle and commanded the occupants to exit the car. Officer Lawson described an “assault rifle-type firearm” pointed directly at him by the backseat passenger on the driver’s side. This passenger was Joseph Carter (“Carter”). Officer Lawson fired at Carter until the firearm was no longer pointed at him and Carter moved to the passenger side of the car. At the time of the shooting, the driver, Bobby Whitty (“Whitty”), had already fled from the car. Officer Lawson’s bullets struck Carter and the front seat passenger, Kwamae Jones (“Jones”), wounding Carter and killing Jones. The Tucson police Department Chief Chris Magnus released body cam, surveillance footage, radio communication of an officer involved in a fatal shooting that occurred at the parking lot of a Lowe’s Home Improvement store Monday evening Nov. 29.. A Tucson police officer has been fired after he shot 9 times and killed a man, later identified as 61-year-old Richard Lee Richards in a motorized wheelchair who was armed with a knife chief said in a press conference today. Previously Richards was caught trying to steal a tool box from Walmart by Tucson police Officer Ryan Remington, a four-year veteran of the TPD, who was working off-duty security at the store followed Richards and asked for a receipt. Richards responded, “here’s your receipt,” pulled out a knife and kept moving. The employee told investigators that Richards said, “if you want me to put down the knife, you’re going to have to shoot me.” Remington followed after Richards across the Walmart parking lot and then into the nearby Lowe’s parking lot. At that point, Remington was joined by another officer, officer, Stephanie Taylor and both followed Richards toward the Lowe’s. Remington then told Richards to not enter the store but Richards ignored him. Remington shot Richards nine times, causing him to fall out of his scooter. Richards died at the scene. The Volusia Sheriff's Office released Multiple Body Cameras and more informations after the released of a helicopter video footage of a police chase that occurred May 6-2021when a man stole two Cocoa Police Department vehicle in the same pursuit. It all started on May 6-2021 when Cocoa police were called to check out a report of a suspicious person on I-95. During that investigation, the person, later identified as Xavier Javern Cummings, managed to get into a marked patrol car and took off. A summary from the incident report is below: On 05/06/2021 at 1621 hours, deputies were alerted of a pursuit involving a stolen Cocoa Police Department vehicle (FL tag: XF0006) traveling north on I-95, entering Volusia County in Oak Hill. Deputies responded to the area and set up along I-95 with stop sticks. VSO Deputy M Webb successfully deployed stop sticks on the vehicle at mile marker 249 N I-95. A Cocoa police officer successfully completed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle at the mile marker 252 N I-95, which resulted in the stolen vehicle coming to rest in the wood line. Edgewater Police Sergeant C Geiger pinned the vehicle with his patrol vehicle to prevent the stolen vehicle from leaving. VSO deputies and police officers surrounded the vehicle and gave the sole occupant, later identified as Xavier Cummings, commands to exit the vehicle. At that point, Cummings armed himself with a large crowd dispersing pepper spray canister, exited the driver side door, and fled on foot. Cummings ran directly towards a Cocoa Police K-9 vehicle (2020 Ford Interceptor Utility FL tag: XI1760), which was parked on I-95 at the scene and was unlocked with the keys in the ignition. It should be noted, Cocoa Police K-9 Zena was not inside the vehicle at the time it was stolen. Cummings entered the Cocoa Police K-9 vehicle at the driver's door, still armed with the pepper spray, and sat in the driver seat. A Cocoa police officer deployed his Taser towards Cummings, and struck him in the left side of his torso with one probe, which was ineffective. Cummings was then able to drive away and fled north on I-95 at a high rate of speed with no regard in the now stolen Cocoa Police K-9 vehicle. Deputies and officers began pursuing the vehicle north on I-95. VSO Sergeant J Hattaway and Port Orange police officers successfully deployed stop sticks on the vehicle at mile marker 256 N I-95, which caused three of the tires to deflate. Due to the tire damage, vehicle slowed and came to a stop in the median at mile marker 258 N I-95, Daytona Beach. The Pasco Police Department release body camera and dash cam footage of an officer involved shooting that occurred on Road 68 and Interstate 182, on July 7, 2020 On July 30, 2020 at about 3:05 pm Pasco Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle, and had information that Santiago Ayala-Pineda maybe in the vehicle. 33-year-old Santiago Ayala-Pineda aka "Gumby" had an active Felony warrant out of the Kennewick Police Department for Assault in the first degree with a weapon. Kennewick Police Department Statement made on July 27, 2020: On July 19, 2020, officers responded to the 300 block of N. Ely St for the report of a shooting that had just occurred. Upon their arrival officers learned that both the victim and suspect had fled the scene. Officers later found that a 38-year-old male had driven himself to an area hospital with a non-life threatening gun shot wound. Our criminal investigations division responded to the scene and began their investigation into identifying the suspect. Based on their investigation 33-year-old Santiago Ayala-Pineda was identified as the suspect. Ayala-Pineda currently has an active felony warrant for 1st Degree Assault stemming from this incident. Pasco Police Department Officers observed Santiago Ayala-Pineda hiding in the vehicle during the stop. Officers gave orders to Santiago Ayala-Pineda however, he did not comply. Santiago Ayala-Pineda armed himself with a handgun and refused to drop it. Detective Andy Corral fired his department issued handgun, striking Santiago Ayala-Pineda. Aid was rendered to Ayala-Pineda on scene by officers, and by Pasco Fire personnel. Santiago Ayala-Pineda was transported by Pasco Fire Department to a local area hospital where he has been admitted for treatment. Detective Andy Corral has been with the Pasco Police Department for 13 years and is assigned to the Street Crimes Unit as a K9 handler. Pasco Police Chief Ken Roske requested the activation of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to assume the investigation of the officer involved shooting. SIU investigators responded to the scene, and immediately assumed command and control of this investigation, relieving all Pasco PD officers of any involvement. As part of the newly adopted WAC 139-12, Chief Roske requested the assistance of two (2) non-law enforcement community representatives. SIU investigators met with these individuals Thursday evening at Pasco PD. The community members also visited the scene.
