Installing Docker

01. Log into the Linux based device

1. Download a MacOS Big Sur .iso [Download](https://archive.org/search.php?query=Mac%20OS%20Big%20Sur&and[]=mediatype%3A%22software%22)
2. Download KVM OpenCore bootloader [Download](https://github.com/thenickdude/KVM-Opencore/releases)
3. Extract the downloaded KVM OpenCore bootloader .gz file
4. Upload the Big Sur and KVM OpenCore .iso files to the Proxmox ISO library
5. Log into the ProxMox web UI
6. Right click the ProxMox node name > Create VM
7. Type MacOSBigSur in the name field, set the VM ID to 1100 (unless 1100 is in use) > Next
8. On the OS tab, set the Type field to Other and select the KVM OpenCore .iso in the ISO Image field > Next
9. On the System tab, set the Graphic card field to VMware compatible, BIOS field to OVMF (UEFI), Check the Add EFI Disk checkbox, Uncheck the Pre-Enroll Keys checkbox, Machine field to q35 and the SCSI Controller to VirtIO SCSI > Next
10. On the Hard Disk tab, set the Bus/Device field to VirtIO Block, Disk size field to 64, Cache field to Write back (unsafe) > Next
11. On the CPU tab, set Cores field to 4, Type field to Penryn > Next
12. On the Memory tab, set the Memory to 4096 > Next
13. On the Network tab, set the Model field to VMware vmxnet3 > Next
14. Verify the summary and click Finish
15. Click the MacOSBigSur VM > Select Hardware from the left sub-navigation menu
16. Click Add > CD/DVD Drive
17. Select the MacOS Big Sur .iso downloaded earlier > Click Create

24. Press CTRL+W and search for ,media=cdrom
25. Delete the ,media=cdrom from the two attached .iso files (KVM OpenCore and Big Sur) and add cache=unsafe
26. Press CTRL+O, Enter, CTRL+X to write the changes to the conf file
27. Back in the Proxmox web UI, right click the MacOSBigSur VM in the left navigation pane > Start
28. Click console in the left sub-navigation menu
29. At the OpenCore menu, select UEFI Shell > Press Enter
30. Type the following in the UEFI shell:

# change to the Big Sur .iso, the disk number may be different for you
fs0:
# launch the MacOS installer
System\Library\CoreServices\boot.efi
```
31. After a long initialization sequence the MAC OS Setup should start
32. Select Disk Utility
33. Select the VIRTIO Block Media > Click Erase
34. Name the drive OS11 > Set the Format to APFS > Click Erase
35. Click Done > Close Disk Utility
36. Click Install macOS Big Sur
37. Click Continue > Click Agree > Click Agree again
38. Select the OS11 disk > Click Install
39. Wait while Mac OS 11 installs files, the VM will reboot several times
40. Press Enter at the OpenCore boot screen after each reboot to continue the MacOS installation
41. Select your Country > Click Continue
42. Confirm your languages and keyboard layout > Click Continue
43. Click Not Now on the Accessibility screen
44. Click Continue on the Data & Privacy screen
45. Select Not Now on the Migration Assistant screen
46. Select Set Up Later and then Skip on the Apple ID screen
47. Click Agree > Agree again

Things You Will Need
- A USB flash drive, at least 16 GB
- At least 15 GB of free space to build the installation files
Preparation
01. Install 7-zip if it is not already installed https://www.7-zip.org/download.html
02. Download Python https://www.python.org/downloads/
03. Run the downloaded Python installer, making sure to check the option to add Python to the path
04. Download OpenCore version 0.7.0 https://github.com/acidanthera/OpenCorePkg/releases/tag/0.7.0
05. Extract the download OpenCore .zip file
06. Navigate into the extracted OpenCore /Utilities/macrecovery ≫ Right click in the white space ≫ Open PowerShell window here...
07. Run the following command in PowerShell
python .\macrecovery.py -b Mac-E43C1C25D4880AD6 -m 00000000000000000 -os latest download
08. Wait for the download to complete
Creating USB Installation Drive
01. Format the USB flash drive to FAT32
NOTE: This will delete all files on the drive. Make sure to backup any important files before continuing
08. Navigate to the root of the formatted USB flash drive
09. Create a folder named com.apple.recovery.boot
10. Navigate back to the extracted OpenCore /Utilities/macrecovery and copy all .dmg and .chunklist files inside the com.apple.recovery.boot directory on the USB flash drive
11. Download the Optiplex 7010 OpenCore configuration files https://github.com/dps910/Dell-Optiplex-7010-Hackintosh-OpenCore
12. Extract the downloaded .zip file
13. Copy the OC directory from the extracted download to the extracted OpenCore/X64/EFI directory, choosing to skip existing files
14. Copy the EFI directory from the extracted download root of the USB flash drive
15. Safely remove the flash drive and connect it to the Optiplex 7010
Installing Mac OS
01. Start the Optiplex 7010 and start pressing F2 on the keyboard to enter the BIOS setup
02. Expand General ≫ Boot Sequence
03. Change the Boot Options from Legacy to UEFI ≫ Move the USB flash drive in the list at the top right of the screen to the top of the list using the arrow buttons ≫ Click Apply at the bottom of the screen ≫ Click Exit to reboot
04. If prompted to select a boot device, select the the USB flash drive
05. At the OpenCore menu, select EFI (.dmg) ≫ Press Enter
06. After a long initialization sequence the MAC OS Recovery Assistant should start
07. Select Disk Utility
08. Select the target hard disk to install Mac OS to ≫ Click Erase
09. Name the drive MacOS ≫ Set the Format to APFS ≫ Click Erase

The Devices

The Benchmarks

7-Zip - The 7-zip benchmark tests compression and decompression using the LZMA method. Results are shown as a rating in MIPS (million instructions per second). The rating value is calculated from the measured CPU speed and it is normalized with Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4 GHz, 4 MB L2) CPU in 64-bit Windows with multi-threading option switched off. The charted value is the total compression MIPS score.
Sysbench - The sysbench CPU benchmark verifies prime numbers by doing standard division of the number by all numbers between 2 and the square root of the number. Once a number gives a remainder of 0, the next number is calculated.

2. Click Continue to use Workstation Player for free for non-commercial use
3. Click Finish
4. Click Create a New Virtual Machine on the right side of the application
5. Select Installer disc image file (iso) > Browse to and select the downloaded MacOS Monterey .iso > Click Next
6. Select Apple Mac OS X and macOS 12 > Click Next
7. Name the VM MacOS 12 and set the path to store the VM files > Click Next
8. Adjust the disk size if necessary > Click Next
9. Click Finish
NOTE: If running an AMD processor, edit the .vmx file in the folder you specified for the VM, add the following to the bottom of the file and save your changes

10. Right click on the MacOS12 VM > Power On
## Installing MacOS Monterey
1. After an initialization sequence the MAC OS Setup should start
2. Select a Language > Click the next arrow
3. Select Disk Utility
4. Select the VMware Virtual SATA Hard Drive Media > Click Erase
5. Name the drive OS12 > Set the Format to APFS > Click Erase
6. Click Done > Close Disk Utility
7. Click Install macOS Monterey
8. Click Continue > Click Agree > Click Agree again
9. Select the OS12 disk > Click Install
10. Wait while Mac OS installs files, the VM will reboot several times
11. Select your Country > Click Continue
12. Confirm your languages and keyboard layout > Click Continue
13. Click Not Now on the Accessibility screen
14. Click Continue on the Data & Privacy screen
15. Select Not Now on the Migration Assistant screen
16. Select Set Up Later and then Skip on the Apple ID screen
17. Click Agree > Agree again
18. Enter a name, user name, password > Click Continue
19. Click Customize Settings
20. Click Continue > Select Use or Don't Use for Location Services
21. Pick a timezone > Click Continue
22. Choose whether to share analytics with Apple > Click Continue
23. Click Set Up Later on the Screen Time screen
24. Uncheck the Enable Ask Siri box > Click Continue
25. Pick a theme > Click Continue
26. Welcome to MacOS 12 Monterey
## Install VMware Tools (optional, but recommended)
1. On the VMware toolbar click VM > Settings > CD/DVD
2. Click Browse next to ISO Image File > Browse to the extracted Unlocker files \tools > Select darwin.iso
3. Click the Connect checkbox
4. Inside the VM, double click the mounted VMware tools and run the installer

Installing Pi-Hole
--------------------------------------------------------------------
01. Log into the Armbian device
02. Run the following commands in a terminal window
# update software repositories
sudo apt update
# install available software updates
sudo apt upgrade -y
# clean up downloaded apt files
sudo apt clean
# install pi-hole
curl -sSL https://install.pi-hole.net | bash
03. Press Enter until the DNS selection is displayed
04. Select a DNS provider and press Enter
05. Press Enter through the rest of the Pi-Hole installer, selecting the defaults
06. Copy the randomly generated admin password (just in case)
07. Press Enter to complete the installation
08. Run the following command to change the Pi-Hole admin password
sudo pihole -a -p
09. Enter and confirm the new password
10. Open a web browser and navigate to http://localhost/admin to view the i-hole admin interface

Testing Pi-Hole

01. Back in the terminal, run the following commands to use the local pi-hole instance for DNS
sudo nano /etc/resolv.conf
02. Add the following line at the top of the other nameservers
nameserver 127.0.0.1
03. Press CTRL+O, Enter, CTRL+X to write the changes to resolv.conf
04. Back in the web browser, open a new tab and navigate to a site that contains ads, like https://yahoo.com
05. Watch the Pi-Hole interface to see the ads being blocked
