The Year One Special items are currently live for the Guardians whose accounts qualify for them, you can pick them up at the appropriate kiosks in the Tower. However, if you DO get them before the Taken King drops at 2am PDT, 5am EST on September 15th, you'll run into a bug that prevents you from completing the special "Veteran's Tour" Questline, and you'll have to delete the Year One Emblem/Shader/Sparrow in order to finish it. Seriously, the Crucible in Destiny 1 is so much better than what we've got in Destiny 2 right now. Its almost like playing a completely different game series. While I'm looking forward to the upcoming 'Go Fast' update and its changes to the world of Destiny 2, heading back into D1 gives a whole new perspective on how the Crucible has changed, and how it could evolve.
