In this video, you are going to learn a lot of things about the best functional robot in the world. Boston Dynamics is a world famous robotic research company based in the USA. Atlas is a bipedal humanoid robot developed by the American robotics company, Boston Dynamics. Bipedal meaning that it can walk on two legs. The project is funded and overseen by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA in short. The robot, originally shown to the public on July 11, 2013, derived from a project named PETMAN, a humanoid robot designed for search and rescue tasks. Today they developed it to be a research and development platform for robotics. The latest version of Atlas is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated and is not available for purchase. Atlas is equipped with two vision systems. A laser rangefinder and stereo cameras controlled by an external computer. Its body has 28 degrees of freedom. And can navigate rough terrains and climb stairs independently using its arms and legs.

From the facial recognition capabilities in your phone to the algorithms behind your social media feed, AI has given rise to a wealth of helpful technology. It’s not as smart as humans, for the time being, but even now, there are things machine intelligence can do that humans simply cannot. AI-driven algorithms can analyse massive databases of information much quicker than any person, and they do so with fewer errors. Many of the experts agree on one thing: superintelligent AI is going to be very dangerous. But extinction at the hands of AI should be the least of our worries. There are more present dangers that artificial intelligence will enable for humanity. The truth is, we don’t have to fear superintelligent AI itself. Our fear should be superintelligent AI in the hands of the wrong people. In this video, we will discuss the AI dilemma and what this means for humanity.

While robots have always been associated with metals and ceramics, a team of U.S scientists are fast changing this narrative. By integrating Biology and Mechanical design, they have successfully created a new class of robots that are not just living, but are also capable of reproducing. These new hybrid robots are made from living tissue and an artificial scaffold that enable them to move more like living organisms than machines, quickly and naturally respond to external stimuli, heal quickly from damage or injuries, and above all, replicate themselves in almost the same fashion that we humans do. To robotics experts, these new robots, otherwise called xenobots, have become the most prominent offshoot of a similarly new field of robotics known as biorobotics or soft robotics. In this video, we’ve unraveled what these stunning biorobots are and just how they are able to reproduce new replicas of themselves. Xenobots as they are called have two main components of skin cells and heart cells, both of which were obtained from the frog, xenopus lavis, and after which they are named.
