February 17, 2010 – Will Grigg – The Scott Horton Show – Episode 1131
Will Grigg, author of Liberty in Eclipse, discusses the Second Amendment's waning influence in the state of Massachusetts, the submit-to-authority indoctrination of children in public schools, the militaristic rituals that intrude on nearly all American social events, how the manufactured partisan divide functions as a political distraction and the Republican Party's hijacking of the Tea Party movement.

This interview is excerpted from the KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles radio broadcast of September 20. The entire show (1 hour segment) can be heard here.
Eric Margolis, foreign correspondent and author of War at the Top of the World and American Raj, discusses how the Afghan election failed to confer any legitimacy to the government and was a total waste of time and money, why the Afghan Army's minimal Pashtun representation bodes ill for future security and cohesion, the incredible hubris of the "government in a box" strategy for pacifying Marja, the stealthy U.S. occupation of Pakistan and how the increased violence in Kashmir complicates U.S. regional strategy.

Jason Ditz talks about President Trump’s announcement that he wants American oil companies to take control of the oil fields in eastern Syria, which, beyond the troubling legality of such a move, implies that the U.S. might have to leave troops in Syria indefinitely. This is a rather dramatic turnaround from Trump’s apparent desire to get out of the war in Syria, as seemed to be the point behind the recent withdrawal from the northeast. Ditz also describes the latest in the war in Yemen and efforts at home to end it.

David Vine explains the delicate situation of British colonial rule over the Chagos Archipelago, where thousands of native residents were forced to leave their homes in order for the United States to build a military base there. The UN has condemned the move in an overwhelming vote.

Thomas E. Woods, author of Rollback: Repealing Big Government Before the Coming Fiscal Collapse, discusses the pivotal events (Quebec Act, the “shot heard ’round the world“) preceding the Revolutionary War; the persistent myths surrounding the Civil War, southern secession and slavery; how the Union victory transformed the country into a “nation” with a strong central government and budding imperialist ambitions; and the antiwar case for a gold standard monetary system.

Patrick Cockburn, Middle East correspondant for the Independent, discusses the Iraqi National Intelligence Service threat to sue Ahmed Chalabi, the myth that the "surge" pacified Iraq, the continued scarcity of clean water and electricity in Baghdad, a likely new UN resolution by the new year and how a Shia-dominated government may be strong enough to take over from the U.S.

Scott talks to Dan McAdams about the U.S. withdrawal from northeastern Syria, and the ensuing negotiations between Assad, the Kurds, and Turkey. McAdams reminds us that the whole crisis was only precipitated by America’s decision to intervene in Syria’s civil war, a thinly-veiled attempt to overthrow the Assad regime. Scott reminds us that, as usual, it’s really all about limiting Iran’s influence in the Middle East.
Daniel McAdams is the executive director of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity and the co-host of the Ron Paul Liberty Report. Follow him on Twitter @DanielLMcAdams and read all of his work over at Antiwar.com.

Eric Margolis, journalist and author of American Raj, discusses the Obama administration’s decision to directly arm Syrian rebels; the “old colonial lusts” of Britain and France; disagreement on whether the Syrian government or the rebels used chemical weapons; and Obama’s rather arbitrary “red line.”
