One of the greatest problems for horses is that they are so stoic which is a survival attribute but works to the detriment of them in captivity far too often. Many people are unaware of the trauma these animals can experience without outwardly showing signs of their ailments which leads to deteriorated health and function and ultimately their demise. Subsequently many suffer in silence for years This is a video I would have preferred not to make and I found it very difficult to do so but perhaps it may make some people aware of what horses may have to endure while looking quite contented in the field. I was going to have included his euthanasia which was chemical, an OD of anaesthetic so that people could see what I believe is the easiest way for most to pass on. When this is done precisely the animal has died before it hits the ground but like all procedures if it does not go off smoothly it can be hard on all concerned. There are videos of this procedure on youtube that show the way it is done Bart waa suffering a myriad of maladies now he has No more Cushings No more founder No more laminitis No more tooth spurs No more carcinoma No more abscesses No more stilts disease No more loneliness No more pain It has been my experience that while you can save a foundered horse it is rare that they will ever be able to perform again as previously. Some people may shoe them to force them to continue in work but that is only to the detriment of the animal.
