Gear gives you options and you can use optional gear. No, you do not 'need' go out and buy the most latest, greatest, high speed operator approved gear. The older stuff works just as good if what you got fits the needs you have. Older gear also can fit your needs if you do not have a lot of cash to go out and get gear. Equipment, gear should be purpose driven and not "cool" driven.
