She was later found on the banks of the Chambers Creek with a bullet wound to the head. Her body was prepared for burial by the citizens of Grandview and she was buried in the cemetery. Her red velvet riding habit was placed in a tree to mark the spot should someone inquire. Mysteriously, two large stones appeared. One at the head and one at the foot of the grave.
