The NSW’s Premier Gladys Berejiklian “slipped up badly” when she decided to approve a major pay rise for the NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller, according to Labor Strategist Bruce Hawker. In March, at the height of the coronavirus scare, Gladys Berejiklian decided the NSW Police chief Mick Fuller should receive a pay rise of $87,000 which Mr Fuller subsequently offered to turn down. However, the premier insisted his pay rise go ahead anyway, a decision which Sky News contributor Jane Marwick said would increase his salary to almost $650,000 dollars. Mr Hawker said the premier should not have been offered the raise, and Mick Fuller should not have accepted it. “The optics of this are really bad,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. The pay rise story concerning Mick Fuller “coincided with the revelation that the nurses of NSW who are leading the fight against COVID may not be getting a standard 2.5 percent pay rise in the coming year”. “It was a bad misstep by Premier Berejiklian, who in the main, Ruby Princess exempted, has managed this crisis pretty well,” he said.
