Shelley Segal Performs for Mythicist Milwaukee
“Mercurial voice and eclectic sound” (The Brag) genre defying singer-songwriter Shelley Segal creates a space for her listeners. A space for people to engage with ideas, to question and to reflect on the everyday – to see its layers, its depth, its meaning.
Desirous of all expressions, Shelley flirts with elements of jazz, folk, pop, blues, reggae and electronica, imparting a pure joy about music and its power. The spirited singer has been “creating a ripple effect with her melodic vocals, heartfelt passion, thought-provoking lyrics” (Leona Devaz, Weekend Notes) Shelley’s first single, folk protest song ‘Saved’ has become an anthem for grass-roots secular activists.
Collaborating with Adam Levy – guitarist for Norah Jones & Tracy Chapman – Shelley co-wrote and recorded ‘Little March’.
Shelley co-wrote and featured on ‘Chemistry’ – an award winning Drum & Bass track with Carl Cox.
Last year’s single, the reggae-inspired ‘Morocco’ from ‘An Easy Escape’ made a splash with coverage in the Australian National Press and the Moroccan World News.
“Truly an artist with international flair” (AU review) her powerful voice has taken her around Australia, Hong Kong, China, England and eight tours of the United States. She has performed to festival crowds of over 30,000 people.
An artist, an activist and an explicit storyteller, Shelley uses her music not only to express the way she sees the world, but to create the world that she wants to see.
Her upcoming EP, Strange Feeling will be out May 8th 2015.

HOW CAN WE MAKE PROGRESS IF WE CAN’T LEARN TO LISTEN TO ONE ANOTHER?
We are a diverse world, with billions of individual points of view on politics, religion, environment, sexuality, human rights, etc. But we've become paralyzed when charged with resolving problems - often refusing to listen to the views differing from our own. MythCon speakers come from all walks of life, but they’re here to show us that we can find value in engaging in conversation with people who think differently.
MythCon V will be a conference full of attendees who believe that in order to bridge the deep divides we see in today’s world, we need to get more comfortable with respectful, intelligent dialogue between people who don’t view the world through the same lens. We encourage attendees, speakers and special guests to review our code of conduct, harassment and recording policies prior to the event and to contribute to a peaceful, respectful event environment.
Every segment at this year's conference features a moderated discussion between multiple people with differing points of view. You'll hear from activists, academics, journalists, entertainers, YouTubers, podcasters and more.

Edwin Herbert has studied the Christ-myth theory for nearly twenty years, has been a regular op-ed newspaper columnist on topics concerning science, skepticism and religion, and is president of his local freethought society.
Edwin has just written his debut novel entitled ”Mythos Christos” which is an historical fiction piece surrounding the end of the fourth century CE. By focusing on the religious tension in this time period, “Mythos Christos” also lays out the “mythicist” argument that states the supernatural Abrahamic figures and events are based on mythology and should not be accepted as history.
During the podcast interview, Edwin shared with us how he was first introduced to the mythicist position and why he decided to write a book about it.
