Bighorn sheep have lived in the Peninsular Ranges, including the Coachella Valley, for thousands of years. They are uniquely adapted to live in our harsh desert environment. Listed as an endangered population in 1998, these sheep have dealt with some unique adversities. However, through the efforts of Bighorn Institute and the wildlife agencies, recovery is currently underway. This presentation will discuss the life history and recovery of this iconic desert species.
Aimee Byard graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Wildlife Biology. She started working for Bighorn Institute in 2000 as a Field Biologist and now also serves as the Institute’s Associate Director.
