A casual drop by EAST CONWAY on the NS Fort Wayne Line in western Pennsylvania at the east end of Conway Yard found three manifest freight trains in a bit of a traffic jam trying to get through the well known interlocking plant.
The first manifest freight was performing a shove from track 1 to the westbound receiving yard via the 95, 93, 33 and 31 switches, trying up tracks 1, 2 and 3 in the process while track 4 was blocked by a westbound intermodal train was taking on fuel or a new crew further west at Conway Yard.
As this shove was taking place an eastbound manifest freight appeared on the 908 running track led by C44-10W #7562 and C44-9W #9801. As the shoving train's engines, AC44C6M #4231 and ES44AC # 8160 passed under the road bridge, another westbound appeared on track #3 with AC44C6M #4503 leading. Although the #29 switch was reverse for a potential movement east on track #,4 the eastbound freight held at the 26 signal while the westbound on track #3 was held at the 92 signal.
At this point I had to leave, but I did notice a route being cleared for a movement on #1 track westbound. This whole mess was probably a function of NS deciding to de-staff EAST CONWAY a few years ago.
