If you're a quiet, dorky kid who has trouble fitting in at school, it's super motivating when being able to draw Pidgey on your science duotang makes you suddenly popular. Later of course, I started taking art more seriously than just for popularity, but Pokemon has always stuck with me like a smoking addiction. I still play all the games, and yes I have a binder of now-rare first gen cards I'm adding to. This is one of 3 legendary birds in the first gen: Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres. I'm on #teaminstinct, I started by drawing Zapdos, however us Team Instinct members are fair people and so I am drawing them all ;) When I played the original Pokemon Red game, unfortunately capturing Articuno was kind of...lacklustre. At that point, I already had Zapdos, Moltres, and it was one of the last to be caught next to Mewtwo so it was a little behind in terms of the necessary training for it to stay as a useful legendary. I think the visit was with my family; we probably went because I flew in from university in NS and we visited my aunt as well, so another trip to a familiar place. I love going there. I painted this live on Twitch with the intent to fit the frame. What inspired me was the stark contrast and ripples, and I wanted to paint a turtle of course.
