What To Do When You're Trapped in the Woods
You thought it’d be fun to take a few days away from the world and camp out a bit. You get up early and strike off on your own to discover the area but a sudden storm hits, you run for cover and become completely lost. The only thing that matters now is getting home alive. So, what do you do?
1. Don’t Panic
When you’re lost in unfamiliar territory it’s going to be pretty daunting. The difference between making a mistake and choosing correctly is often the difference between keeping cool and losing your head. You can get yourself out of this. Positive thinking is one of the keys to survival.
2. Ask the Questions
While you’re stopping and thinking, ask yourself: Where do I think I am? What’s available around me? How long will it be until they realize I’m lost? Take a moment to examine yourself and your surroundings and try to figure out if it’s worth plunging forward or if it's best to simply plant and wait for the cavalry.
3. Retrace Your Steps
If you’ve been heading in the same general direction since you left camp, you might do well to try and retrace your steps. It may just be a matter of walking in the right direction until you get your bearings.
4. Consider the Plant
If you’ve been wandering for a while, consider just staying put. If someone’s expecting you back, stay where you are, because help will come for you eventually.
5. Look For Shelter
One of your top priorities should be keeping dry. You’re looking for a dry(ish) place that will keep rain from hitting you and wind from chilling you. Look for fallen trees or rock outcroppings.
6. Beware of Caves
A nice, warm cave can be the ideal sort of shelter while you await rescue. You’re likely not the only weary traveler who’s had the same idea! Be very cautious as you just might be moving into a animal’s lair.
7. Four-legged Encounters
If you happen to run into coyotes, wolves or cougars, do not play dead, approach or run away. Face it and back away from it slowly. If they have you cornered, make yourself seem as big as possible. If it attacks, smash the heel of your hand into its snout while blocking its mouth with your other arm.
8. Finding Water
The easiest way to find it is to head downhill. If you’re not sure which direction “downhill” is, try looking for lines of trees or clusters of vegetation as plants grow thickest near water. Be sure to listen as much as you look, too.
9. Make a Fire
It’s getting dark and chilly. You’re going to need a fire which will also be a good signal as you're lost. (Will adjust this to follow the video tut of someone making a fire) Collect some dry leaves or grass, some twigs and logs and pile it up. Cut a small groove in the

Muslims have a lot of bad press recently so here are 9 Islamic myth-busters!
Lie 1
Muslims hate the West.
Muslims even raise their children to hate the West.
WRONG!
Contrary to what some extremists say, and based on interviews with 50,000 Muslims from thirty-five countries, the Gallup polling organization determined that when asked what they admired most about the west, only 2% of Muslims in Iran said ‘nothing.’
Lie 2
Muslim scholars support violence.
WRONG!
The best way to illustrate this lie is by an analogy. Florida Pastor Terry Jones planned to burn 3’000 copies of the Koran. Some would say he speaks for Christianity.
But statistically he speaks for his congregation of fifty and not the other 2.1 billion Christians in the world. Also his title of Pastor was proven to be fake.
Muslims support Isis no more than Christians support Terry Jones.
Lie 3
Terrorist Training Camps
Congressional candidate from Tennessee, Robert Doggart allegedly met with members of a private militia in Texas planning to take an assault rifle and other weapons to destroy a town of New York named Islamberg.
According to the book ‘Twilight in America’, Islamberg is a terrorist training camp which hides bunkers, automatic weapons and even an airfield where Muslims can train to be terrorists.
WRONG!
The small village of Islamberg is the picture of a traditional and tranquil Islamic community - mostly second or third generation Americans hailing from cities like New York.
Police Capt. James Barnes having a 12 year personal relationship with the community, stated; "I would say that the amount of crime that is associated there at the land is less than it is anywhere else."
Lie 4
Islam and World Domination
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush stated “I think the biggest threat today… is Islamic terrorism, this asymmetric threat is organized to destroy Western civilization.”
WRONG!
According to Europol statistics, between 2006 and 2013, Islamists were responsible for only 0.7% of terror attacks in Europe
Lie 5
Muslims Celebrated 9/11
Last year Donald Trump said that he “-watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.”
WRONG!
Steven Fulop, a possible Democratic candidate for governor in 2017, argued that no one in Jersey City cheered on Sept. 11. “We were actually among the first to provide responders to help in lower Manhattan.”
Jerry Speziale, the police commissioner of Paterson, added; “There were no flags burning, no one was dancing. That is totally false.”
Lie 6
ISIS represents Islam
Chaldean Catholic priest Douglas al-Bazi, said;

Have you ever wanted to get away from it all? To just pack your bags and go somewhere nobody has even heard of? Well luckily for you Destination Tips has got you, with some places so remote you may have trouble getting back!
1. ITTOQQORTOORMIIT
No, it’s not a typo, this place really exists. Situated on a remote part of Greenland’s coastline, this tiny village has very colorful houses and a population of just 350 people. Travel by boat is only possible in summer when temperatures only just rise above freezing whilst in winter when temperatures drop below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, helicopters are the only way out!
2. Cape York, Australia
It seems odd that Australia should have isolated areas but actually, most of the country is a barren wilderness. Cape York is mostly untouched rain forests and savannas and has a tropical and monsoonal climate so an offroad is essential for transport but can only be used in the dry season.
3. La Rinconada, Peru.
Located on the top of a mountain at around 17,000ft above sea level, La Rinconada is always cold, with summer temperatures barely getting above freezing. The gold mine attracted people to the area and with a population of 30,000, it is the highest permanent settlement in the world.
4. Longyearbyen, Norway
Also known as Longyear town it gets its name from John Munro Longyear who started coal mining operations here in 1906. In summer off-road cars can be used but in winter, snowmobiles are needed, so much so that Longyearbyen actually has more snowmobiles the residents.
5. Kerguelen islands
These remote islands are located in the Antarctic and are subject to high winds and rough seas all year round, it’s no surprise then that they are also known as the desolation islands too. It has no airports and the only way to leave is via boat with the nearest permanently populated location being Madagascar, 2,100 MILES AWAY!
6. Pitcairn Island
Situated in the south pacific sea almost equidistant between Peru and New Zealand this volcanic island is home for around 50 people. The only way to get there is by ship and then by longboat because it only has one shallow harbor and the remaining shoreline is jagged rocks.
7. Bouvet Island
Hailed the most remote island in the world, it is at least 1000 miles away from any other island. The only place to land on the island was created by a rock slide in the 1950's and is now home to a weather station. Considering that 93%of the island is covered by glacier it’s no wonder it’s uninhabited.
8. Oymyakon, Russia
Oymyakon is one of the world’s coldest permanently inhabited settlements. The lowest temperature recorded there was -89.9 degrees Fahrenheit whilst the highest was 94 degrees Fahrenheit making it one of the five places on earth to have a 180-degree temperature ra

Latvia is a small country with a population of less than two million. While people are generally relaxed and tranquil there are some things which will offend. Here are 6 Things Not To Do in Latvia!
1. Don’t mention the Russians!
Latvia has a complex relationship with Russia. Many Latvians feel the Russians don’t accept them as their own independent country and many Russians living there don,t feel accepted as Latvians. Neither like an ignorant tourist voicing their opinion about it!
2. Don’t ignore their language!
The Latvian language was suppressed during the Russian occupation so try to learn some simple words.
Sveiki (hello)
Ardievas (goodbye)
Paldies (thanks).
They know they’re never going to be a global language but they really appreciate you trying.
3. Don’t avoid the local dishes!
Latvians are proud of their culture and cuisine. Try the local dishes and beverages and give your opinion, especially if you like them. From fried garlic bread to fresh fruit jams, Latvia has a varied cuisine with excellent domestic beers.
4. Don’t be aggressive (unless you’re driving!)
Latvians generally have a calm and “each to his own” lookout on life so don’t be brash or too bold, unless you’re behind the wheel, then it really is each to his own!
5. Don’t turn up empty-handed!
If you get invited to someone’s house always bring an odd number of flowers, an even number is associated with death, some food or beverages
and remember to take your shoes off just inside the door.
6. Don’t disrespect nature!
Half of Latvia is still virgin forest. Most Latvians are nature lovers and still follow many pagan traditions. They will show you how to make crowns from flowers and tea from the local herbs. Join in respectfully and they will appreciate it.

Just when you thought you already knew everything there is to know about long haul flights, we bring you these 8 secrets you wouldn't even imagine! Are you ready? Let's do it!
1) Secret Bedrooms
On long haul flights we usually spend most of the time sleeping because they're so incredibly boring... and long. However, whilst you’re comfortably sat there being bored, the cabin crew are busily working away and they need to rest too. That’s why on most flights they have a secret bedroom area hidden from the passengers, with bunk beds and a private bathroom so that they can read, sleep or rest as they prefer.
2) Farty Air
There can be around 400 people on any one flight, all casually farting into the cabin’s recirculated air system. Even the air from the toilet is all being breathed in by the passengers. The air that’s aboard when you take off is the same air that you’re breathing when you land! Okay, that’s false. A well-propagated urban myth. Although the air is recirculated, it is refreshed with outside air 20 times every hour. That’s nearly twice as many times as in an average office and uses the same HEPA filters.
3) Single Use
For their A380 Airbus flights Qantas prepare over 7.5 million dinners every year. That’s a lot of meals, all cooked in huge hangars by 105 chefs to then be re-heated on each flight. However, along with the 500 meals that are heated and then thrown away are 70 menus, (first class menus only) 2,500 plastic cups and 5,000 plastic utensils. On every flight!
4) Baggage
Delays cost Airlines 7.3 million dollars a year. If you’re the slow souvenir shopper who holds up the flight, you’re not only despised by the rest of the passengers, but by the airline. Sure the plane will wait, but only whilst they fish out your suitcase and send it back to the airport. It’s against airline policy to haul a suitcase without an owner...
5) Kitchen Simulator
You’ve heard of a flight simulator? Well some airlines have a kitchen simulator…
When you eat a meal at 30’000 feet, it doesn’t taste the same as if you were to eat it at ground level. Because of the low humidity (lower in fact than in a desert) it dries out your nasal canal, and the high pressure also affects taste buds. So most airline food is loaded with salt and extra seasoning. Of course the chefs can’t just guess what will taste good up in the air, so they have a special sealed room in the cooking hangar, which simulates the pressure and humidity of the cabin.
6) A Rhino in the Cargo Hold
Qantas flies around 65,000 animals a year in the cargo hold, so the crew often hear lots of dogs barking and whining. On the average long haul flight, they usually fly with six/ten animals among cats, dogs and even ex

ONE GROUP OF PARASITES KNOWN AS PARASITOIDS, SHOWS NO MERCY. THEY INVADE THEIR HOSTS, USE THEM, AND UNCEREMONIOUSLY DISPATCH THEM WHEN THEY’VE HAD THEIR FILL.
• THE ADULT FEMALE PARASITIC WASP, COTESIA GLOMERATA IMPREGNATES A CABBAGE WHITE CATERPILLAR CHOSEN AS THE HOST FOR ITS HUNGRY LITTLE WASPS TO-BE, THRUSTING ITS NEEDLE-LIKE OVIPOSITOR THROUGH THE VICTIM’S SKIN AND PUMPING HER EGGS INTO THE BODY CAVITY
• WITH THE EGGS HATCHED INSIDE THE CATERPILLAR, UP TO 60 INDIVIDUAL LARVAE WILL SOON DEVELOP
• AFTER TWELVE DAYS OF THE CATERPILLAR GORGING AND PROVIDING NOURISHMENT, THE LARVAE WITHIN WILL EACH HAVE GROWN TO THE SIZE OF A GRAIN OF RICE
• FOR WHILE THEY DRINK THEIR HOST’S BLOOD, THEY ARE CAREFUL NOT HARM ITS VITAL ORGANS. THEY THUS KEEP IT ALIVE WHILE THEY ARE STILL STEADILY GROWING.
• WITH THE EGGS HATCHED INSIDE THE CATERPILLAR, UP TO 60-80 INDIVIDUAL LARVAE WILL SOON DEVELOP
• WHEN FULLY MATURE AFTER TWO WEEKS, THE LARVAE ARE READY TO BREAK OUT FROM THE PROTECTION OF THEIR SURROGATE WOMB, AND THEIR NEWLY FORMED SAW-LIKE TEETH ARE CALLED INTO CUTTING ACTION.
• THEIR TEETH WILL BE SHARP ENOUGH FOR THEM TO SLICE THEIR WAY OUT OF THE CATERPILLAR – EATING IT ALIVE FROM THE INSIDE OUT
• THEY RELEASE CHEMICALS THAT PARALYZE THE CATERPILLAR, THEN EACH INDIVIDUAL BEGINS GNAWING ITS WAY OUT.
• NOW, FREE AT LAST, THE LARVAE EMERGE AND ENTER ANOTHER LIFE STAGE, SWIFTLY SPINNING SILKEN COCOONS – THE IDEAL ENVIRONMENT FOR THEIR FINAL TRANSFORMATION.
• YET KEEP IN MIND THAT THE CATERPILLAR SURVIVES THIS INCREDIBLE TRAUMA.
