The Unexpected Transformation of Fred Astaire in “Easter Parade†(Episode 67)
THIS IS A REUPLOAD OF A VIDEO MADE OVER A YEAR AGO ORIGINALLY POSTED ON A DIFFERENT CHANNEL. MORE VIDEOS HAVE BEEN UPLOADED ON MY SENSEI DAN ALL VIDEOS PLAYLIST AS "UNLISTED." PLEASE CHECK THERE FOR OTHERS!
Fred Astaire had two careers as a musical star: the first was as a Depression era RKO fantasy rich guy dancer who glided his way through many mistaken identity musical/farces with Ginger Rogers. His second was as an MGM Populist, seemingly railing against cafe culture with numbers like "A Couple of Swells." His innovation and perfection never flagged, and he proved that one could be a star despite being short and bald if one could "dance a little."

Whenever there are a bunch of expensive theatrical failures in a row, the immediate "go to" is to blame audiences no longer going to the theater because they have streaming. Recent viewership numbers, though, continue to call that into question, as do wildly successful theatrical releases that go far beyond projections. There are many reasons why theatrical remains THE most valuable window, and we will be going over them in this and future videos!

Hollywood is faced with a number of challenges wrought by their current obsession with forgetting the most important maxim of the industry: "The problem with 'show business' is that people obsess over one word and screw up the other.'" Many thanks to Robert Blizard (friend from junior high) and Soren Kjellberg (friend from high school in Tokyo) for asking me the questions...

This channel is dedicated to all sorts of content surrounding the entertainment industry. It was originally formed as a repository of content created for the California Community College Chancellor's Office Department of Economic and Workforce Development Doing What Matters Initiative. Running from 2013-2018, numerous events and assets were created to enhance anyone interested in entertainment as a career to find the best career pathways in. In order to support that effort, a series of videos were created that dealt with "below-the-line" or "crafts" positions, which are often not taught in regular curriculum.
The program further expanded to include digital assets that might be amusing to general students. Dan Watanabe, founder of this channel, was a grant director.

OLDER "SENSEI DAN VIDEO COMMENTARIES: My older commentaries from a previous channel are being reuploaded here now. They may be found in the SENSEI DAN ALL VIDEOS Playlist. I am putting them up as Unlisted so they won't be confused with the newer content. Please check them out!
JAPANESE MUSIC AND DRAMA TITLES: Original copyright owners have become FAR more strict with pulling down old uploads. For the time being, I am just putting up classic Japanese commentaries from the days of prime time movie showcases. These often but not always include embedded commercials from original telecasts I recorded. Depending on YouTube and the copyright holders' 's future policies, I may try uploading music and dramas again in the future.
