A photo went viral of a reporter covering Hurricane Ian using a condom on her microphone. I wanted to test that out.

Today I review a new XLR & USB Dynamic Mic from Rode, the PodMic USB. This mic has a controlled lowend, a mid forward sound, and a little bit of grain on the top end (mainly in XLR mode). This offers Digital Signal Processing that is stored on mic so you can use it on computers without Rode's software, and the pop filter works extremely well. It doesn't handle shocks too well, and the XLR port is inactive when you have the mic connected over USB.

Today I review an adapter that allows you to connect your 3.5mm lav mic or shotgun mic to an XLR Interface / Preamp; the Rode VXLR+. This thing takes +12-48v of Phantom Power and converts it 3-5v of Plugin Power.

Today I review the Audio Technica AT4033a which is a somewhat unexciting microphone, but a nice sounding microphone. It's a more midforward sounding mic compared to other AT mics I've used and has a less dominant top end but it does suffer from sibilance and have a self noise of 17dBa.

Today I walkthrough, explain, and review the M-Audio M-Track Solo. This is a new budget interface at only $50 that rivals the Behringer UM2. The preamp is capable of driving the SM7b for a healthy recording level, it has pretty clean preamps, but it does have limited A/D and D/A converters at 16-bit 48kHz. At $50, it’s still quite impressive.
