Australia introduces amateur callsigns for life. In VK if you changed licence category or moved interstate you had to get a new amateur callsign. That's no longer the case. Watch and find out what's changed in new rules announced today.

You're talking to someone on air. You drop to half power and they say they hardly notice the difference. But does this apply for multiple contacts and working DX? Find out here with the help of a WSPR demonstration.

Reviewing and demonstrating a $14 electronic component tester.
More details: http://www.banggood.com/DIY-Meter-Tester-Kit-For-Capacitance-ESR-Inductance-Resistor-NPN-PNP-p-929603.html & http://webcortex.com/product_detail.php?id=SKU136841&search_param=Cables&item_name=DIY+Meter+Tester+Kit+For+Capacitance+ESR+Inductance+Resistor+NPN+PNP+Mosfet+M168&r=#.U_9j1_mSzPx
NOTE: FEBRUARY 2015: There is a way to get the capacitance measure to read 0pF with no capacitance. Short all three pins together for the first four self-tests. Then just before the last test insert a 100nF capacitor. Switch on will now display 'no/unknown/damaged part'. It will now measure capacitors over about 35pF, displaying the correct value. There will be no indication with smaller capacitors - to measure those have them in parallel with a larger capacitor (say 100pF). Thanks to Steve G1KQH for this tip.

Testing a homebrew 40m direct conversion double sideband transceiver.
This rig is the direct conversion receiver in the 'bedlam' video with a transmitter section added. This comprises a BC547 transistor microphone amplifier, a 2N3053 driver and a BD139 PA.
Power output is 1.5 watts. Afternoon tests when portable were unsuccessful with no contacts made. However evening tests from home were very successful, with 5 contacts made over a couple of hours.
An article describing this rig appears in Lo Key June 2011. The circuit is very similar to DSB rigs designed by M0DAD and ZL2BMI (google these callsigns for circuits).
