This video is a full speed training workout to run faster and improve that sprint time. Having a faster sprint can have great impact on your performance on the court. It is very important to add this dynamic to your game to help create more of an advantage when going against opposing teams. To run faster we must be doing speed training exercises 1-2 times a week to maximize your ability to run.
For this particular workout we are attacking three different elements that correspond with increasing your sprint speed (drills, plyometrics, and strength). We have three exercises/drills for each of the elements, and completing each for the following number of reps and sets.
Getting into basketball shape is the most important thing when training. Remember, DON'T RELY ON YOUR COACH to get you in shape. It is up you to get your body ready.

For this weeks topic we are discussing flexibility vs rigidity (or stiffness) specifically for basketball. We get in depth on the potential benefits, and drawbacks of both flexibility and rigidity.
So in this video I tell you which one I would rather a basketball player be, and give you the reasons why. Most people, including me until recently, would automatically think that flexibility would be the one that you would want to be. Be some research and studies have discovered that rigidity is going to be the better option for basketball players.
The go to is going to be right in the middle, not too flexible and not too stiff. But if I had to choose one it would be stiffness. For both of these their will be injury risk, but if you are over flexible and are in a high performance, high intensity sport than the severity of the injury is going to be higher than it will be for the over rigid athlete.
The performance side is also going to favor the rigidity athlete. You are not as explosive when you are too flexible, because of the stretch shortening cycle. Your body has to go through a whole other step, causing it to take more time through the movement and slowing you down.
So the rigid athlete is going to be favored over the flexible athlete when we are talking about high intensity sports!

In this video I talk about how to increase your vertical jump. I give you some of my favorite exercises that is going to help you jump higher. Their are a lot of different exercises you need to incorporate in your vertical jump training, but today's focus is explosive exercises. All of these are great exercises for basketball, and if done consistently over time it will increase your vertical jump fast.
Power Squats
Power Cleans (I give a modified alternative)
Dumbbell Thrusters
Band Squats
Kettlebell Swings
I explain the correct form of each of these, and tell you the amount of reps I recommend. I would say to do an explosive workout like this about once a week, and you will be jumping higher in no time.

Their are a number of different things you can do to increase your your shooting range in basketball. For this video I am going to talk about 3 things you can do that will give you unlimited shooting range on the basketball court.
I don't want to change your shooting form, but the guidance of shooting form that I give will give you the maximum power when shooting a basketball. Lining up your toe, knee, hip, elbow, shoulder, and the hand of the side you shooting on is going to create a one fluid motion, and will allow you to use entire body following all the way through in one motion. Also bending your knees, using your legs a little bit more can have a big affect on increasing your shooting range. A one motion shooter over a two motion shooting is also going to have an advantage for maximum range because it allows you to use your entire body to generate force. Never use your thumb, or do something different in order to increase your range unless it is the mechanics I was talking about. Your body might just not be ready yet, so keep close range until you develop the strength.
The next two things I talk about are going to take a little bit longer to improve, but will be very beneficial when increase long distance shooting range for basketball. But strength is going to be a big cause for the amount of range you have in basketball. Check out my playlist for the best exercises for basketball!

The last one is probably the most important, but you need to work on the other two before working on this one. The amount of power you have throughout you whole body can be a tremendous different for your shooting range. I give you some very specific exercises for increasing your shooting range. They all have similar mechanics of shooting a basketball and will help increase the amount of force you are able to exert.

For today I wanted to talk about how athletes should train for performance, and if you should push to failure when training? This is something that is a misconception, most of us grow up being taught that if you aren't pushing yourself until you can't go anymore then you aren't going hard enough.
I explain in detail why this is not the best thing to do when training for performance (for the most part). Their are a couple of factors that go into it, it depends what level of training you are at, where you are at in your season, and what your goals are. All of this is going to let us know if you should train to failure or not. I talk about the effects of muscle fibers (fast twitch, slow twitch) with certain types of training.
