As it stands right now, Nigeria Golden Eaglets are currently second in the group with 3 points after winning our opening group game against Zambia by a goal to nil. Morocco on the other hand are currently top of the group also with 3 points after defeating South Africa in their opening group game 2 goals to nil.
Morocco qualified for this tournament in November last year winning all three games in the north zone. Nigeria Golden Eaglets on the other hand qualified for this tournament as one of 2 teams from WAFU Zone B, after winning the qualification tournament back in June last year.
After 3 games, only the top two team in this group will be guaranteed qualification to the quarter-finals while 2 of the best 3rd place finishers across the 3 groups will also get the opportunity to advance to the quarterfinals. Hence a win in this second game is so important for both Nigeria Golden Eaglets and Morocco. Remember only the semifinalists in this competition will secure the under 17 world cup ticket which starts in November. And every country would be eying these tickets.
While Nigeria Golden Eaglets are the most successful team in the world at the under 17 level with 5 gold medals and 3 silvers out of 12 appearances. However, in Africa we are yet to show this dominance with the Eaglets having 2 gold medals out of 9 appearances. Morocco on the other hand are only making their 3rd appearance at the under 17 AFCON with their best performance coming in 2013 where they came 4th.
For Nigeria to make it out of the group, we have to play better against a strong Morocco side, take out chances, find our rhythm against, play well as a team and be solid in defence. Morocco will surely attack and they would also be trying to gain all three points in this game. Both Nigeria and Morocco Under 17 team are yet to lose a competitive game since 2022; so expect a tough match.
There are lots of good players in this Nigerian team but they all need to find their form in this game against Morocco.
I still strongly believe that Nigeria players like Emmanuel Michael, Favour Oluwasegun Daniel, Abubakar Abdullahi, Yahaya Lawali, Precious Williams, just to mention a few among many other fantastic players would be instrumental if we want to go far in this tournament. Even the goal keeper Richard Odoh who has been fantastic since joining the team would also be instrumental for us going forward.
Morocco will not make it easy for us, expect lots of crosses in the box from this team. They will also put up a good fight however I still believe the Nigerian team is stronger on paper.
The match will be shown live for free on Afro Sports Official Facebook Page. You can also follow live updates about the match on CAF official page in selected countries around the world.
