This old dimmer was in my house for at least 25 years, and finally started doing annoying things, so after replacing it I let my curiosity direct me to looking inside.
Kaiweets sent me their "KETS02 Smart Digital Soldering Iron" to take a look at.
Coupled with a PD capable battery pack and its a nice little portable soldering solution for field repairs and similar uses.

This week I'm playing with some 3D printable 1/12 scale stage lights and a few different options for LEDs to light them up.
These aren't entirely practical, but they are super cool (especially for someone like me who used to work with the real thing)
This is the LEDs I used:

An odd little novelty that someone at my office got several years ago - a combination USB hub and USB powered coffee cup warmer.
But the important thing is: what's inside it and how does it work?

I read about this version of the Adruinio IDE for android and had to give it a try.
It works!!!

It's been another rough week at work, so I'm just going to mellow out with a good beer and a nice relaxing kit build.
This kit goes together easily enough and it does work, but it's far from what I would call a precision test instrument.
It didn't come with any instructions or manual, and i was too lazy to reverse engineer a schematic, but at least it sort-of works...
Here's the kit I built:

Tonight I'm talking about a work in progress homebrew light controller - one that isn't going as well as I hoped, but it's a learning process (and boy is it teaching me...)
I also try out a USB-DMX adapter I got a while ago, and do a quick exploration of a handy (and free) piece of lighting control software.
And I ramble on a bit too long about related-ish topics

Elegoo sent me this Arduino Uno starter kit for review, so that's what I'm doing today.
Here's a link for anyone interested in buying the same kit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D8KOZF4
Or, for those of you in Canada: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01D8KOZF4
Here is the download link for the contents of the CD, if you are interested in previewing the materials they include.

Many of the modules in this kit are things that I've tinkered with in the past, here's links to some of those videos:
Ultrasonic distance sensor: https://youtu.be/5QvVdVzVK9U
Stepper motor and driver: https://youtu.be/XLzlw4YoTRE
Servo motor: https://youtu.be/3wElhDVxCc
H-bridge and other motor drivers: https://youtu.be/O-u5dWWDf_g
And here are a bunch of my other videos with arduino related projects in a convenient playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE9Um5NpNcs5u_P7cIbCNRe3nG3wy-gZ-
I noticed that Hari Wiguna did a review of the same kit a couple of weeks ago. Here's what he had to say about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiz1JnnFdyk
Disclaimer: Elegoo approached me and did send this free of charge, but they didn't tell me what to say, and didn't ask for any pre-approval of what I said in the video.
None of the links above are affiliate links. I haven't received any money from Elegoo to do this.
