Thanks to a huge volcanic eruption folks in 1816 had a good excuse to complain about the weather. Worldwide famine, floods & disease-all thanks to enough toxic ash in the sky to turn summer into winter.
MUSCLE Beach Venice has seen its fair share of muscled gods over the years, and now there’s a new name to add to the list. Ike Catcher is the former Mr Vienna who has made Muscle Beach his second home, living just a stone's throw away. Ike is as ripped as any bodybuilder out there, but there’s not many guys his size who do calisthenics. Ike describes himself as a “Muscle Beach legend. I'm 6ft 9, and 270 pounds. I’m one of the biggest guys in the world to do the things I do." For that reason Ike has been dubbed by some as the 'biggest man on the bars', for his impressive calisthenics routines. With the famous Muscle Beach gym currently closed due to COVID19, Ike like so many others has had to adapt his gym routine. Ike loves to train down on the beach, and whenever he does he usually attracts a crowd of people. Today Ike is meeting up with his “training bae” Lexie, to work up a sweat before attempting his challenge. The pair go through a bodyweight workout, using each other for added weight and Ike can’t resist the opportunity to show off his signature move of shoulder pressing Lexie above his head. Ike trains seven days a week and keeps his impressive body guessing, mixing up traditional bodybuilding with his love for calisthenics and yoga. Always keen to push himself to the limits, Ike has set himself a challenge of 40 muscle ups in 10 minutes, which is no mean feat for a guy his size.

Are plants capable of learning and retaining information? Studies are showing that some members of the kingdom plantae may have a memory.
Be careful how you treat plants - some of them might remember what you've done to them.
A recent study by ecologist Monica Galiano showed that plants may have memory and the ability to learn. Scientists have also discovered that plants have abilities usually only seen in animals. Galiano studied the Mimosa pudica, a very interesting plant that folds its leaves when touched. After several minutes, its leaves return to their unfolded "calm" state.
She tried to "scare" her test plants by dropping them to see if their leaves reacted the same way. The plants' leaves curled up as usual, but only for the first few rounds of the test. Over the course of one day, Galiano dropped the test plants for a total of 60 times, and as you can probably guess - they stopped reacting to the fall.
According to standards applied to animals by scientists, Mimosa pudica was showing the ability to learn.
Scientists have shown that cell clusters in plant embryos act like brain cells, telling the embryo to grow. Other plants react to situations and their surroundings, and are using that information to decide how to develop. Researchers are hoping if they can assess how plants do this they may one day be "trainable", thus making severe conditions like drought one less thing future farmers will have to worry about.
Did you know that the world's deepest well has been drilled 13,000 feet beneath the Antarctic ice and why? What's being found will help in the search for life in space!
Russian scientists have drilled the world’s deepest well into Lake Vostok Antarctica. They expect to discover new life forms living 13,000 feet beneath the Antarctic ice. They have already identified a new form of bacteria. A bacteria whose DNA bears no resemblance to anything else on Earth. Vostok the sixth largest lake on Earth has been covered in ice for 15 million years. Any life living there would be totally independent from the rest of the planet. And would have evolved with all sorts of adaptations we can only imagine.
Scientists originally reached the surface of Lake Vostok in 2012 but a leak of freon and kerosene contaminated the drill hole. Samples taken from the surface of the lake showed hundreds of life forms, but they couldn’t be guaranteed to be free of contamination. This forced the team to re-drill the last 1600 feet through a parallel borehole.
Vostok’s 1,300 cubic miles of freshwater is twice as pure as double distilled mineral water. The water has a temperature of 26 F but doesn’t freeze due to the pressure of the ice. Studying the lake will give us clues on how and where to look for life on other planets.
Scientists believe the most promising life forms exist where water is present. Places like Marks and Jupiter’s moon, Europa. However, space will have to wait while we continue to discover alien life on planet Earth.
This video is incredibly interesting, especially for those who enjoy and are interested with geography and/ or weather. The video depicts what is referred to as the “coldest permanently inhabited place on Earth.” The video features Oymyakon, Russia.
The ground in this region is permanently frozen, and snow covers everything in sight. Most Americans say that they enjoy the sight of immense snow, and it is considered one of the most beautiful natural sights on the planet. However, those who do not have to live in these kinds of conditions often do not realize how taxing and how difficult it can be. Think about trying to hang your clothing out to dry if you do not own an electric dryer. What would happen? Your clothes would just freeze!
It can also be very easy to get disoriented and “turned around” in these conditions. This is because the snow coats every single surface that exists, so there are no visual landmarks for people to go on to figure out where they are. This makes these regions extremely dangerous to live in. The people who live in extreme weather conditions like these are most of the time families whose ancestors have lived there for generations. Children grow up here, and they learn how to intelligently work the land and thrive here.
Oymyakon, Russia, is a remote village located in Siberia. It is 927 km away from the nearest city. Its name comes from the Oymyakon River. This name translated means “unfrozen patch of water.” The village has endured record breaking temperatures of negative 71.2 degrees Celsius. When regions like this are located where they are on the globe, and they have these extreme weather and climates, they do not have a great deal of sunlight. In the winter, the days can even be just three hours long. That means that 21 hours of the day are spent in pitch black darkness.
It is so cold here that most electronics are actually rendered useless. This can be a major issue if you were to get lost in this region because you would not have access to any kind of GPS device.
Car engines need to be kept running at all times to keep them from freezing, but that does not prevent a population of 500 residents from living here. The grozen ground makes it difficult to grow crops for food. Because of this problem, the people here survive on a diet of mainly meat from horses, reindeer, and fish.
Tourists flock to this region, surprisingly. They are met with beautiful landscapes and hand crafted ice sculptures.
