The Emperor was impressed by his noble and modest behavior and wanted him always near for counsel. Charles V maintained a friendship with him throughout his life. 3. **Death of Empress Isabel:** The death of Empress Isabel, witnessed by Francis Borgia, made a strong impression on him, leading him to renounce his worldly glories and decide to enter the Society of Jesus. 4. **Permission to Enter the Society of Jesus:** St. Francis Borgia asked Emperor Charles V for permission to enter the Society of Jesus. Charles V granted his permission, recognizing the virtue and piety of Francis Borgia. 5. **Election as General of the Society of Jesus:** St. Francis Borgia was elected as the third General of the Society of Jesus in 1560 after holding the office of Superior of the Society in Spain, Portugal, and the West Indies. 6. **Calumnies Against the Society of Jesus:** Lutherans and enemies of the Church spread calumnies against the Society of Jesus in attempts to bring it to ruin. They tried to create dissension between the Dominicans and the Jesuits. 7. **Pope St. Pius V's Support:** When Cardinal Alessandrini, a Dominican, was elected Pope, attempts were made to suppress the Jesuits. However, Pope St. Pius V defended and supported the Society of Jesus, recognizing its importance in serving the Church. 8. **Encounter with Pope St. Pius V:** During the coronation ceremony of Pope St. Pius V, the procession stopped in front of the House of the Jesuits. St. Pius V expressed his love for the Society of Jesus, embraced St. Francis Borgia, and promised his protection and support for the Order. 9. **Act of Thanksgiving in Church of Gesù:** After the encounter with Pope St. Pius V, St. Francis Borgia and the Jesuits entered the Church of Gesù in Rome, next to the Jesuit house, to make an act of thanksgiving before the Blessed Sacrament. 10. **Legacy of St. Francis Borgia:** St. Francis Borgia's dedication to the Papacy and his Catholic spirit left a lasting impact.
