In the April 2022 issue of QST magazine, VA2PV (Pascal Villeneuve) reviewed the M5Stack, which is a STM32 based device which has much potential within amateur radio. Multiple projects can be made such as an Oscilloscope, DX tracker, Weather Station, and much more.
I completed the installation and did have a few minor issues while setting everything up.
In this tutorial, I reference the article and provide a walkthrough tutorial on how to get the M5Stack working with the IC705, to be used as a S Meter, SWR Meter, and Power Meter. This project is very easy and could be a great start into learning how the M5Stack works, as well as learning about coding.
Hardware Needed:
A comptuer
An Icom IC705 (I am using firmware Version 1.26)
a M5Stack Core Development Kit. I got mine from Amazon (Same day delivery) - https://amzn.to/3IG4WUf
Note, the above link is an affiliate link. The price is the same, I just receive a small commission if purchased through my link. If you find it elsewhere, no hard feelings.
Files needed:
Visual Studio Code - https://code.visualstudio.com/
Git - https://git-scm.com/download/win
IC705SMeter, written by armel - https://github.com/armel/IC705SMeter
Enjoy!

Today's Livestream: Navigating Hamfests - Tips, Tricks, and Tales of Caution
Join us today as our topics hits on the world of Hamfests, a subject I've touched upon in previous discussions. We'll cover essential tips, tricks, and suggestions to help you steer clear of scams, all while diving into a live troubleshooting session of the USDX radio I impulsively acquired at the Jefferson Wisconsin Hamfest—ironically, neglecting my own advice.
A Buyer's Caveat
Remember, verifying the functionality of gear at the point of purchase is crucial; however, not all sellers play by the rules of honesty. Today, I'll share my personal anecdote of purchasing the USDX radio under the assumption it was a safe bet, much like embarking on a blind date based on the dubious assurance of a friend saying, "They have a great personality." Spoiler: The radio and I are currently in a complicated relationship, it seems.
Live Troubleshooting: The USDX Radio Drama
A recent lunchtime livestream unveiled some quirks with the USDX, notably its stubborn refusal to connect properly, testing with multiple antennas and coax cables, hinting at an elusive issue with its onboard BNC connection. While I'm far from an expert—my last stint at a Holiday Inn notwithstanding—we'll tackle this challenge together, learning as we go.

Even though the printer was sent to me for a fair and honest review, I needed to build it first. No money was exchanged for the review.

This is the first step in modifying this radio for custom firmware. The reason this is so big: Xiegu will undoubtable stop supporting this radio with many bugs and features left out. We as a community have now shown proof that this radio can be modified and re written to our liking.
WILL IT 2m / 70CM? We will find out in the future!
