Today, we’re going to talk about some of the rumors surrounding the safety of the ketogenic diet. There have been claims that keto is dangerous and can increase your risk for heart disease, high cholesterol, and other health problems. What’s the truth?

In the past, food was not as available as it is today. Carbs and sugar were not a major part of our ancestors’ diets and fasting was commonplace. This means that early humans had to run on ketones!

Metabolic flexibility is the ability to go from sugar-burning to fat-burning. Metabolically flexible people can also fast and tap into their body fat reserve.

Most people are metabolically inflexible or insulin-resistant. Because they’re consuming so many carbs, they’re not able to utilize ketones.

High-carb diets can also contribute to neuroglycopenia—a condition in which your neurons lack glucose. This can eventually lead to Alzheimer’s and dementia, but initially, you might experience the following symptoms: feeling faint, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, irritability, anxiety, and mood swings.

How do you reverse insulin resistance caused by the dietary habits that we have today?
1. Resist junk foods
2. Recreate stresses that early humans may have experienced (Exercise, going out in the cold, taking stairs)
3. Mimic the diet of early humans (Consume cruciferous vegetables, salad, and organic grass-fed meats)

It may take a few weeks or even a few months, but once you make these changes, you’ll be able to fast for longer and longer in between meals. You'll build your willpower, confidence, and your health.
