18th century mathematician Leonhard Euler believed in the possibility of a hollow earth, with entrances existing at both the north and south poles. In 1947, famous American explorer Admiral Richard Byrd, was the first man to fly over both the north and south poles. In his private journal, he claimed to have witnessed over the North Pole a lush, green oasis that did not fit with the rest of the barren, frozen landscape. Three years later Byrd would lead an expedition through the South Pole. He claimed to have found a hole which lead to a hollow Earth housing an advanced civilization. Byrd stated that this civilization were in possession of crafts capable of traversing from one pole to the other.
