NEW YORK -- Wilson Ramos' go-ahead two-run homer as part of a seven-run fifth inning helped the Rays rally for a 9-6 victory Thursday night at Yankee Stadium, averting a series sweep while all but nixing the Yankees' hopes of securing the American League East title.
Despite Aaron Judge's American League-leading 51st home run, the Yankees' elimination number in the division was reduced to one, meaning the next the next Red Sox win or Yankees loss will hand the AL East to Boston. The Yanks would then play the Twins in the AL Wild Card Game on Tuesday in New York. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1oZhe38RyQ

NEW YORK -- James Paxton's shoulders slumped ever so slightly as he returned to the dugout with three outs in the books, once again mystified by his continued inability to work a clean first inning. Then Gleyber Torres sent a grand slam into the left-field seats, and all seemed right within the Yankees' universe.
That is the version of Paxton that the Yankees need to see more as they drive toward the postseason, especially now that they know their only reinforcements are likely to come from within. Torres' first-inning grand slam off Eduardo Rodriguez held up as the difference in a 4-2 victory over the Red Sox on Friday evening at Yankee Stadium.
As Paxton noted, the quiet Trade Deadline leaves the Yanks banking on healthy returns from pitchers Luis Severino and Dellin Betances down the stretch, and they also expect to have Giancarlo Stanton's big bat in the lineup at some point. They did fine without all of that on Friday, sending the reeling Red Sox to their fifth straight loss.
New York's American League East lead over the third-place Sox is 11 1/2 games heading into Saturday's separate-admission doubleheader. The second-place Rays are 7 1/2 games behind the Bombers, who recorded their Major League-leading 35th come-from-behind win as they bounced back from J.D. Martinez's first-inning homer.
The first three Yankees reached against Rodriguez, who induced a foul popout that brought Torres to the plate with the bases loaded. That is a situation in which Torres has enjoyed success thus far in his young career; Torres owned nine hits in 23 at-bats with the sacks full, including a June 19 grand slam off the Rays' Oliver Drake.

As the Yankees continue to evaluate their choices to take the ball in a win-or-winter American League Wild Card Game, five early runs were deposited into Masahiro Tanaka's back pocket on Friday evening, creating a near-lock for victory. It also strengthened a case that will be difficult for the decision-makers to ignore.
The crooked first-inning numbers were welcome as Tanaka received more support than necessary, blanking the Blue Jays over six innings in the Yankees' 11-0 rout at Yankee Stadium. Tanaka has won each of his last three efforts while firing 20 consecutive scoreless innings, giving the Bombers what they'd need with everything on the line.
Even Aaron Judge got into the mix, coming off the disabled list and playing two innings in right field. The slugger received a standing ovation from the crowd of 40,138 as he jogged out for his first game action since sustaining a fractured right wrist on July 26.
Continuing to keep the ball on the ground regularly, Tanaka permitted six hits, walking two and striking out eight. Tanaka permitted 18 homers in his first 83 1/3 innings this year but has served up only five homers in his last 64 2/3 frames through Friday. He owns a 2.09 ERA in 10 starts since the All-Star break.

Tomorrowland Speedway
Opened: October 1, 1971
Ride length: 4 minutes, 45 seconds
Lightning Lane: Yes
Overview/History:
The roar of mini gas-powered sports cars and the smell of exhaust fumes indicate that you're at the Tomorrowland Speedway. Guests drive their cars around a 2000-foot track (on a rail) at death defying speeds of up to 7 miles per hour. This attraction is most appealing to young children, but children must be 54" or taller to drive alone (must be 32" to ride with an adult). If you get behind a slow driver, this ride can be even longer and a simulated bumper car ride may ensue. In spite of the 4 lanes of track, this ride is slow to load and the line-up to get off is even slower.

Friday night’s 8-2 win over the Yankees began the home stretch of the Brewers’ regular season, which concludes with 23 games over 24 days. It will be a push for the finish line, but not a sprint, Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell says. There are too many games in too few days to be a sprint.
Instead, Counsell and the Brewers will need contributions from throughout the roster to mix in enough rest to make the postseason, then play deep into it, with fresh arms and live bats.
