Loving the Pi4 and having some Good and Geeky Fun. It doesn’t take too long to become immersed in Raspberry Pi. There are loads of resources to help you get started and I found @leepspvideo who has made a ton of YouTube tutorials about the Pi.
I immediately installed the PiKISS app and also Pi Apps. I also found out about PINN operating system which is an alternative to Berryboot. I’ll be trying PINN out next.
I had a Pi 3 a few years ago and It didn’t do much for me at the time. SO it has languished unused in a drawer for ages. The new Pi 4 is faster and I got the version with 8GB of ram. It is a proper good and geeky useful computer.
This video is mostly a test of recording with the recording app also recommended by the same guy. The resolution is a bit low but good enough for a YouTube tutorial.
I will certainly be doing more with the Pi. I have now got three of them. The Pi3 will be used as a security camera. Unless I get a better idea. Then I have bought another Pi4 and an Argon One M.2 case. That arrived yesterday. I installed what I could but I’m waiting for the M.2 SATA memory card to arrive. This will speed the Pi up even more.
All good and geeky fun…

Affinity Designer iPad tutorial. The last video I showed how to do this on a Mac from Affinity Designer and using the link to Affinity Photo. In this video, I show how to use a live perspective filter directly in Affinity Photo on iOS. I used the app on my 2018 iPad Pro and it works a treat to make a book cover mock up using this brilliant application. It is also possible to do the same on a Mac with a filter rather than use the Perspective tool. I think it is easier on the iPad to do this job. Next time you want to make a book cover or an image you can use in your advertising for the book have a look at Affinity Photo on iOS.

This is a way to edit the letters in Affinity Photo using the Warp Tool. I edit the letters one by one to line up with a guide line. All the letters get rasterised and when you take it back into Designer the letters are no longer vector.
The other way to do this would be to send to Affinity Photo and use a warp tool. This is not so good as it converts the text to raster and you can't edit further as vector.
To keep it all vector have a look at this video - https://youtu.be/SrwRtCAFOGA
and also this video - https://youtu.be/Eb84DeIP54w

Great whiteboard app for teachers. You can set up your slides with the writing and drawing on them before you are ready to record your lesson or presentation and by using stop points you can be sure that you will be able to say what you want to say when you are playing through the lesson while recording.
There are a very good set of tools and you can erase any irem off the screen if you wish. You can even completley erase a slide of all things including the pictures you have added. There are backgrounds that will be a good starting point for various subject areas and you can make custom backgrounds id you wish.
Overall I am impressed with Doceri and the only thing I would ask for is a zooming feature or the ability to move, size and rotate images after they have been set in place. At least you get free movement, sizing and rotation when adding in the first instance.
You can use the app for free but there is a water mark on everything you output. There is a cost to remove the watermark and it is not too expensive. Although I didn't show it in this video you can also get the desktop app and use the iPad app to control your Mac or Windows computer. Useful if your lesson is an app on the computer or if you can connect the computer to the projection device but can't get connected with an Apple TV or with cables direct form the iPad.

The presentation shows up on the screen of the projector, the television or the Computer without the controls of the app being visible, which is good when you want to make that presentation.

http://goo.gl/dVjPj - I used Explain Everything the iPad app to talk about Blogsy the iPad blogging application. I think it was a successful first attempt at making a video with Explain Everything. It does take time to get used to where the controls are and it seems like I made a good start with this.
I used the shape tool to put arrows on the presentation and I use the pointer tool to point to parts of the Blogsy application. I also used the text tool and it was all fairly seamless. I noticed that I need to pause until the next slide appears on the screen before speaking as the recording is disrupted on the slide change.
Due to me making a couple of mistakes with speaking I did take the video into Final Cut to edit out the bits where I fluffed it. While I was doing this I also put a white background under my recording to move the presentation from the iPad resolution to the 1280 x 720 that I like to have for YouTube.
Explain Everything is s super application that it was hard to find fault with. A smoother recording from one slide to another would be good. I was pleased with the animation of objects on the screen and the smoothness of the lines as they were drawn. Much better than other applications of a similar type.
Technology is going into the classroom and Explain Everything will be one of the tools that is likely to be well used. Unless something better comes along anyway.

Vivaldi PGP email encryption is perfect for new users of PGP email encryption. It’s easy to open an account at Vivaldi.net. it’s also free to open an account. To use it you need to put a telephone number in. This takes away some of the anonymity which you might like to use with your email security. It also means you can only set up as many accounts as you have phone numbers.
Open up the Vivaldi webmail and go to the settings and PGP keys create a new PGP key for yourself. This will give you the private key and the public key needed for you to send and receive emails using PGP encryption. You don’t get as many settings and possibilities to work with the PGP keys as you would get with the GPG Keychain, which is what I use with the email client Mailmate. You don’t get the opportunity to sign keys for instance. You do get all the basics you need to send and receive encrypted email so if you’re a new user it’s just perfect.
I compare this service with Protonmail. Proton may lose easily use and you can send encrypted mails to non-proton mail users by using a password for the receiver to used to decrypt the email. You don’t get this with Vivaldi encrypted emails but with Vivaldi you can bring in public keys sent to you by your friends. This makes it easier to send PGP encrypted emails back to them. With Proton mail you would have two expect them to also use ProtonMail or for them to have their own setup of PGP encryption.
Good and Geeky highly recommends the use of this web-based encryption with PGP service from Vivaldi. I’ve also been using the Vivaldi browser, which I think is quite impressive. It might even encourage me to change from the Brave Browser which I have been using lately.

## EV 20 Q news – talking about the 2019 Nissan Leaf as announced at CES.
It was even before the 2019 Nissan Leaf was announced at CES people were talking about the lack of active battery temperature management. Nissan confirmed there was no liquid temperature management in the new car and the Internet went crazy. We know now the battery is 62 kWh and is packed into the same space as the 40 kWh battery. There are some changes to the interior in the form of a larger 8 inch screen. The outside looks just the same as the 2018 Nissan Leaf. I did hear mention that the pro-pilot assist has been improved. We are going to have to wait for more information to come in as journalists are allowed to test the vehicle properly. After the hashtag of Rapidgate we had for 2018 at least the car is going to get a full testing including the time it takes to charge on longer journeys. With the battery being larger and the consequent longer range it might not matter too much if there isn’t any active battery temperature management in the new vehicle.
Electric vehicle 20 questions took time off from Catalonia, northern Spain to make a visit to Birmingham in the UK. The trip was for a family birthday and this time we didn’t hire a car. With staying in the city centre it wasn’t really necessary to spend the cash on a car. It made a change to use public transport even if only some of it was electric. The train going from the NEC Birmingham airport train station into the city centre Birmingham new Street was electric powered. We also travelled on electrically propelled tram. It was good clean trip going from the Birmingham jewellery quarter back into the city centre. Apart from that we were taking buses which were dirty diesel powered. The good news was that the buses now had anti-idling technology. As soon as the bus came to a stop the diesel engine shut off so less noxious gases were pumped out into the environment.
While walking around we did see a couple of electric vehicle charging posts. There were two around the back of the Birmingham art gallery and museum. This was where we saw the Staffordshire Hoard which is a treasure trove of gold from Anglo-Saxon times. It was pretty amazing and well worth seeing. While chatting to my sister she tells me that there is a couple of charging points next where we were eating in a restaurant. She also told me that these charging points were well used by owners of electric vehicles. I was surprised I didn’t see any electric vehicles while in the UK on this trip. In the city centre of Birmingham most of the streets were pedestrian
