Girard claims that we desire objects, people, ideas etc. Not because of their intrinsic qualities, but because of the desire of an other.
What are the origins of desire? Elsewhere Girard brings the roots of this desire of an other back to Adam and Eve.
Eve was the first to be tempted by the serpent, instantiating a mimetic chain reaction of violence, jealousy and alienation.
Since ultimately the ability to deisre was given to humanity by God, what was His intention for its use? Is there a way of recovering and remembering how and where we should invest our desire?
