Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is obviously not off to a good start with his 2024 presidential campaign. And in addition to all of the technical problems that his little Twitter event had on Wednesday evening, he also began his campaign, essentially launched it on a lie because during that horrendous launch on Twitter, which most people were focused on the glitches and how stupid it was, he said something that kind of flew under the radar and that something was that the state of Florida has actually not banned any books, and that all of this media talk about book bands in Florida that's been going on for two years now is a hoax. So apparently we've just been living in an alternative reality down here in Florida, and all those books that have actually been banned from our school libraries weren't actually banned according to Ron DeSantis. And what DeSantis is actually doing is just employing a simple, uh, verbal trick, if you will. He's using semantics to create a lie, because when he says no books have been banned, you could construe that to technically be true if you're an idiot, because what's happened is that books are not actually banned, but they're banned for certain ages. You know, I saw, uh, uh, an idiot on Twitter try to make this argument the other day. Uh, he works at News Nation and he said, well, the books are still, we're just talking about a matter of switching it to a different shelf. He says, ZAE Gani, by the way, is who, who said that? Like, who just moved it to a different shelf? Do you know why they moved it to a different shelf idiot? Because it's banned for seventh graders and below, and it's only available to eighth graders at a pre-K through eight school. So yes, it is banned for certain students, so you can quibble over what to call it, which is what Ron DeSantis and his little minions out there on social media are doing. But it is a book ban. If certain books are unavailable for certain students based on a policy put in place by the state, then that qualifies as a ban. And that is exactly what's happening here in Florida. Not to mention, as Judd Legum pointed out, a lot of books have actually been pulled off the shelves and are not available to any students because they're still undergoing that lengthy review process. So until they get approved by the state, they aren't available for anyone making that a defacto ban. Oh, and let's also not forget the fact that here in the state of Florida, one single parent can launch a complaint against a book, and then that book immediately becomes available For everybody until that lengthy review process is finished. And that review process has been going on this entire school year, which for most districts in Florida actually ends today a a and plenty of books haven't even been gotten to yet. So we're on the last day of school and we still have books that aren't even available because they haven't even been reviewed yet. So yes, there is a book ban. According to the latest financial disclosures of both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, the RNC and the DNC, the Republican Party has $10 million cash on hand, but a little over $2 million in debt, meaning that they really only have about $7.6 million available. The Republican Party has seven and a half million dollars heading into an election year where they're fighting to take back the Senate. They're fighting to retain control of the house, and of course, they're fighting to take back the White House, and they've got seven and a half million dollars because Rona McDaniel is so stinking bad at her job by comparison, the Democratic Party has a little over $20 million, but about $280,000 worth of debts. So subtract that, and they still have nearly three times as much money as the Republican Party as we head into the election year. So the Democrats are looking good. Democrats are raising money, plus they have the power of the incumbency in the White House, and the Republicans are over here fighting in the house, pushing an impeachment that even the public says is purely politically motivated. They got Donald Trump who's likely gonna be a convicted felon by the time the voting comes around next year, and they can't raise money because the RNC is admitting we have no small dollar donors left. All we have is corporate money. But what are the corporate money doing right now, folks? Well, they're not happy that Donald Trump is gonna be the nominee. So they've been sitting on all their cash because they don't wanna give it to the Republicans. If Trump's gonna be the guy, now this is gonna change, right? Those corporations, the billionaires, millionaires that aren't giving money right now, when all is said and done, even if it's Donald Trump, they're gonna start giving money because they love tax breaks more than they hate Donald Trump. So the money's gonna come in for the Republican Party at some point, but it definitely will not be at the same level that we have ever seen. A few years ago, not a few years ago, back in 2015 heading into the 2016 election year, the Republican party had three times as much cash on hand as they do right now. Same thing with 2020. So this is an anomaly for them. They're consistently raising less and less money, and it all goes to the top. Ronna McDaniel is bad at her job. Now, to mention the fact that she is now implicated in Donald Trump's criminal scheme to, uh, overturn the 2020 election results, the phone call in Michigan, she was on that call with Trump telling Canvassers to not certify the election results, promising to get them lawyers she could Be facing according to Michigan's Secretary of State criminal charges. And that's who you got running your party. So you may end up with a convicted, or at least an indicted on felony charges person at the top of your party. You've got an indicted possibly later on to be convicted person at the top of your ticket. This is what the Republican Party is. It is a party of alleged criminals. That's what we're dealing with. Not just here in the United States, but all over the planet, because if you've been paying attention, then what I'm gonna tell you is not a surprise whatsoever. Climate change is not knocking on our door. The impacts of climate change are happening right now in our own backyards. We have two lakes in the American Southwest lake Mead and lake Powell that are both at dangerously, low levels. Um, Mead is projected to get down to 22% of where it had previously been. By the end of the year, Powell is expected to drop to 27% of needed levels. These two lakes not only provide, you know, the drinking water through their aquifers for millions of residents, but also one of them feeds the Hoover dam. And right now, because water levels are so low because the Colorado river levels are so low and so on and so forth. It's a chain of events, all related to climate change. They're seeing a drop in electricity. And in fact it may not be too long before the water levels get so low that Hoover dam is no longer able to generate electricity. And of course, if we do hit those levels, that of course will mean even bigger. Droughts people in those areas will have a harder time getting water for them to drink. This is climate change, the fires in California, the floods in St. Louis, the massive crippling heat wave that left scores dead across Europe, just a couple weeks ago. All of those are climate change. And again, all of these have happened within the last couple weeks. Folks, climate change is an existential threat, and we know that the problem is getting people to pay attention. Now I will give credit to MSNBC because over the last year or two, they have actually spent a little bit more time talking about climate change issues. They have had Dr. Michael Mann come on their programs. Uh, he goes on there actually relatively frequently, which is a huge leap forward for the network. I still don't think they give it enough coverage. But as Chris Hayes from MSNBC admitted on Twitter a few years ago, the reason they don't give it enough coverage is cuz obviously, and we see this on our channel. It doesn't draw in the big crowds and Chris Hayes, wasn't saying, I don't talk about it. Cuz people don't watch. He was saying, that's basically what the higher ups at the network at the time were kind of telling them like, yeah, you can talk About it, but you're gonna lose audience. So we'd rather you not, this is a problem that is fixable climate change. And that's what we have to remember at least right now. If we take that action, if we finally make that big leap forward, we can fix this. We might even be able to fix it to the point where we could start reversing it if we act. But if we don't, we could hit that point of no return. It was 20 18, 20 18, 4 years ago where we got that report telling us that, Hey, we got 12 years.
