Body cam footage shows alleged theft by Smith County peace officers.
"She mistakenly recorded herself, which is fortunate for us because it caught the crime on tape,"
Former Smith County Precinct 1 Constable, Curtis Traylor-Harris, 34, and two of his deputies, Sgt. Derrick Holman and former Pct. 1 Chief Deputy LaQuenda Banks were arrested by the Texas Rangers in November of 2021 on the charges of abuse of official capacity, official oppression, and property theft.
When the case was all said and done, Sgt. Derrick Holmanwas found not guilty, Precinct 1 Constable, Curtis Traylor-Harris was found guilty but received 5 years probation and Pct. 1 Chief Deputy LaQuenda Banks who thought she had turned off her body camera video when in fact turned it on instead catching the thefts, took a deal after testifying against the other 2 cops. Pct. 1 Chief Deputy LaQuenda Banks received probation as well.
So much for held to a higher standard.
I want to show the world what's happening in our streets, to capture both the positive and the challenging moments. This platform offers the ability to spark conversations and bring about positive change,.
Law enforcement agencies are also recognizing the importance of transparency and public engagement.
