Bagry - a water reservoir in Krakow , created as a result of flooding gravel excavations . It is located between ul. Lipska and ul. Wielicka, in Płaszów , in District XIII Podgórze . It is one of the largest water reservoirs within the boundaries of Krakow. The Kraków Prokocim Towarowy railway station adjoins the lagoon from the south , and Kraków Płaszów station is located a bit further west .
History
The Bagry reservoir was established only in 1945. Previously, there were excavations in its area where prisoners from the Baudienst camp No. 108 located at Łukasiewicza Street (now Kalimacha) were forced to work. The excavated material was used primarily for the extension of the Kraków Prokocim railway station . The camp was liquidated in 1944, but pumps continued to channel the incoming water into the Vistula . The Germans turned them off when they were withdrawing from Krakow, and the incoming water quickly covered the excavation, flooding also the rest of the infrastructure (including excavators and wagons, which are still at the bottom). The resulting reservoir was named Bagrami from the German word Bagger meaning excavator.
