Join Todd Schmenk as he walks through a self as context ACT exercise that uses the metaphor of armor to both see the continuity of the self and natural defenses that we construct, that while they help initially, but in the long run, often become a barrier to the kind of life that we want to live.

Join Todd Schmenk at his online Team Positive Kaffeeklatsch presentation at the Association of Rhode Island Authors Expo in December of 2020. This event is usually a large public affair, but due to the circumstances of the year, this format was done as an alternative. Watch the presentation he gave here. (please note, this is about my book, but the information within is useful whether or not you choose to purchase the resource. Thought I would just give you a heads up.)

The Ball in the Pool Metaphor is one of the most potent ACT defusion exercises and a great place to start in developing greater psychological flexibility. It is one of the most commonly used exercises I use in session weekly.
This video walks you through this metaphor helping you visualize a common scenario of what it is like to struggle with your thoughts and what the cost ultimately ends up being.
Like the story will demonstrate, there will often be thoughts, emotions, and sensations that we wish we could get rid of or control. Aspects of our life we wish we could make go away.
What would it be like if you were able to increase your ability to draw upon these experiences and use them to your advantage? or at least keep them at a bare minimum so that you could focus on what truly matters most to you?
