Iris Debrito is an Angolan who danced kizomba while very young and this was her first performance of kizomba outside Angola and she introduces this as a dance that was unknown outside of Africa at that time. This is the oldest kizomba video I have found and I have tried to restore the audio and video quality it as much as possible. The following is the history she had posted with the video....
As explained in the intro of the video, Kizomba exists since the 1980's - www.studioafrolatino.com for more on the history of Kizomba. In August 2005, Kizomba was introduced for the first time outside the Lusophone community into the Salsa and Lambada scene @ Scala Latino for the August Bank Holiday party. It's now been more than 4 years and Kizomba has grown in the UK thanks to teachers such as Kwenda Lima, Riquita or myself. New blood stormed the scene and is now teaching regularly around London, e.g. Studio Afro Latino teachers Norma and Said. Dancers usually try to make the social dance community inclusive and diverse. Others try to make it exclusive and elitist. In the following, we discuss these concepts in the context of an article by Pierre Henry. He has accused me of misrepresenting him because I did not explain why he promotes a culture of bullying and shaming. However, the video has a whole section regarding how bullies try to justify their negative behavior. This is not to say there are not real issues, in the world or in the dance community. I give the example of obesity and note that the issue does not suggest a need to deny the reality of the problem but the issue involves how we address the problems. We can be welcoming towards people who enjoy the dance casually and socially as well as to those who enjoy the dance professionally.
