Philips BX750A tube radio restoration - Part 5. Job done. Final alignment and checks.
Philips BX750A tube radio restoration log part 5.
This one is complete, and a great result.
An IF alignment brought back some much needed strength to the AM signal, as it seems someone had tweaked the IF transformers at some time. The FM was more or less optimised, so very little improvement was achieved (or needed).
A final tuning check of the bands is done as proof of the pudding.

CORRECTION: As mentioned by a viewer, the use of the old blown resistor as a 'binding post' for the replacement in the power supply circuit in the initial video, was not a good idea as the old resistor could come back to life a cause havoc. I removed the connection to this resistor to avoid problems.

As was obvious from the first video, the audio level on this Nordmende Super 250-9 was disappointingly low. I was afraid the problem may have been the output tube, an EL41, which I had no replacement for, but fortunately that was not the case. So, onwards as per my usual modus operandi: First the power supply, then the audio section. Solen / Ensemble B50 Tiger Amplifier Repair This amplifier really interested me for various reasons, not least of which is its unusual shape. It's a hybrid integrated amplifier, using a tube preamp (ecc81) and a solid state power amp stage. Construction quality is very good, but does not hide its hand-made characteristic. One channel was completely blown up. I mean it - blown up. I had to re-build it completely and try to establish why it blew up in the first place. What I found was surprising, to say the least! As no schematic was available, I decided to trace out my own from the "working" channel, and just as well I did. If I had gone in blind, I'm sure the channel would have blown up again. Enjoy.
