I had a blast once again on my friend Elio's show, "Live From The Shop". No longer just a "power trio", Elio invited one hell of a musician Eric Robert to play keys two hours before we did this. There was no rehearsal, not even a run through of the songs....and Eric had never even heard any of them!
Fortunately my old buddy and longtime drummer Shaun Baker knew what he was doing and kept the train rolling because half of the show were songs that although I wrote, I've never performed live before.

Elio Giordano - Upright Bass

Originally slated for release on Sept 23, 1997, the album release date was pushed back to March 17, 1998. Although Myers was signed by Asylum in 1995, many things can change in the music business and specifically inside a major label within three years. It never should have taken three years to cut and release a first album, but unfortunately many things slowed the process down. Within months of being signed the first tracks produced by Gregg Brown (Travis Tritt, Waylon Jennings, Tanya Tucker) were forever shelved leaving the 20yr old with a $75k debt and no album to show for it. Producers Michael Knox and Michael Lunn produced six tracks in Feb 1996 paid for by Warner Chappell Music the publishing company where Myers was signed in hopes that Kyle Lehning would purchase the masters and allow them to re-cut the four potential singles that Gregg Brown had turned in but were rejected for being "too rock". Knox who now is a successful producer (Jason Aldean) was then the VP of Creative at Warner Chappell. Because he had not yet produced a major label release, when combined with the growing personal tension between he and Myers who both had completely different visions, the label was only open to Michael Lunn producing. Knox urged Myers to leave the label showing his loyalty. The problem was Myers (by this time 22 years old and married) did not trust Michael Knox anymore and refused to be treated like the 16 year old Knox had discovered. Knowing there is no sure thing in the music business, Lunn declined to produce the album fearing he may lose his publishing deal due to going against the wishes of Michael Knox. Label President Kyle Lehning then tapped top tier Nashville producer Barry Beckett (Hank Williams Jr, Vince Gill, Kenny Chesney) to finally make Myers' debut album a reality. Beckett produced 13 tracks for Asylum on JD Myers with three of them never receiving a final mix. Beckett insisted that Myers play guitar on his album because he felt that was part of his identity as an artist. Although Myers won the battle to make his album on his o
