RARE Pentron "Dormiphone" playing its tape cartridge.
This thing I got at a flea market. It must be very rare indeed. I have found out that the unit is from 1952. Of course it's vacuum tube. I replaced the drive belt and recapped the signal capacitors in the amp, thus greatly improving performance. I will later make a video showing the recording function and it in more detail. There, as I found on the Net, I found that there was another Dormiphone unit that used a record player. But this one is tape. I found that these machines were used in the past to play subliminal messages to people while sleeping, to help learn a language or remember something. I also heard that they were used in research in ESP and dream telepathy. The clock works on this and all those switch things around it are switches to turn the machine on and off at times in the night, just like those plug-in timers for turning lights on and off to keep away robbers. Although I have the original microphone to this, it is dead unfortunately. I have since put a new crystal element into the microphone. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-1Mb9OE-Dk
It has been a while since a SHORT SERIES video has been shown. Well, here is another video in the SHORT SERIES of recordervideos. In this recordervideo, I will show the Sony TC-905A, complete with its annoying motor-static.
This unit boasts three speeds, though the unit was marketed as a "2-speed", with no intention that the user would use the low-fi 2.4 cm/sec (15/16 IPS) speed.
The unit has a battery of four AA-size NiCd cells, and a docking station for charging (from the mains) which also contains a power amplifier and loudspeaker.
The unit has a voice-activation feature where auditory input to the unit will activate the motor to start.
Recording is ALC (auto level control) only.
The unit also has an electrical pause ("instant stop"), as well as being stoppable via a remote control. The strange thing about this unit's remote operation is that the connected switch is inverted in its operation, where closing the circuit turns off the motor. I believe there is an inverting transistor driver for the motor, for both remote-switch operation as well as the voice-activation switching.
The unit is AC bias, permanent-magnet erase. Frequency response at 9.5cm/sec (3 3/4 in/sec) is (if I remember correctly) 90 to 9500Hz. I imagine that the upper end for 4.8cm/sec would be somewhere around 4500Hz, but not as good as it could've been due to no change in equalization when changing speeds.

A peek at the mechanisms of the transport, as well as showing a couple of circuit boards.
I also fixed the Fast-Forward.

Another project from the 200 in one electronic project lab kit.
I am not the author of the text nor circuit design. I was reading from the kit manual.

Hoping this is not too long. The year was 2003 and I was 12 years old when I filmed this. (well, perhaps 11 and turning 12 the next month).

This is my rant and motivational speech on how YouTube wants personal information starting March 1st, 2012. I also rant some on the new account layout they're forcing us to and also on how the whole reason for their wanting of personal info is for the purpose of targeting us with ADVERTISEMENTS.
