Adelaide Australia’s Kings & Associates pay homage to James Brown’s musical director, Bobby Byrd, as they put their own spin on his 70s funk deep cut “Back from the Dead.” The tune is the lead track off of their forthcoming album ‘Neighbour’ recorded in Los Angeles in 2019 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. At its core, “Back from the Dead” is a romance song with hints of grit and nastiness. However, it has a coincidental idiomatic significance to the band and society at large as they are figuratively ‘back from the dead’ after the pandemic halted touring and live music as we know it. The band has coordinated the release of the new single to align with their appearance at the 2022 Echuca-Moana Winter Blues Festival. ‘Neighbor’ will be released in fall 2022 and was produced by Jim Scott, who has worked with numerous icons in modern music such as Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rolling Stones, and many more.

“Love Me While You Can” is the highly anticipated lead single from The Handcuffs’ forthcoming fourth studio record. Taking inspiration from vintage album-oriented rock albums from the likes of Mott The Hoople, T-Rex, and the Rolling Stones and reading biographies of their musical heroes, the band observed the simplicity, ease, and freedom of the early days of rock ’n roll. As a result, “Love Me While You Can” is an uncomplicated and pure ode to love the influential artists and anyone dear to you for as long as you can so you won’t end up with any regrets. The track has also become inadvertently anthemic for the times of loss and destruction caused by the pandemic and using the song as a vehicle of hope. Led by critically acclaimed drummer Brad Elvis (Romantics, Elvis Brothers, Big Hello, Screams) and multi-instrumentalist Chloe F. Orwell, the Chicago-based project has been praised by the likes of Trouser Press, The Los Angeles Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Leicester Bangs (UK), and Magnet Magazine and has become a stand-out act in their explorations in sonic territory while believing in the power of a great radio hook. The Handcuffs' powerhouse lineup also includes bassist Emily Togni, guitarist Jeffrey Kmieciak, and keyboardist Alison Hinderliter.

Nothing else epitomizes an acronym quite like J.E.D.I.—“Jazz Electronic Dance Improvised.” Brainchild of Brazilian Girls’ Aaron Johnston, the group’s debut track “Back Atcha” kicks the audience in the face with uptempo funk reminiscent of a Headhunters vibe. From there, it stews into a satisfying house groove laced with a saxophone solo courtesy of Dominic Lalli. As the track ramps back up with its sweaty, dance-like funk motifs Johnson’s vision is evident—J.E.D.I. is a project that is, “fun for you mind and fun for your body.”

Musical Style: Early 80’s Dancefloor Funk with an eye on 2025 aesthetics
Musical Influences: Cameo , Chic , Duran Duran
Musical Inspiration: We were going for almost that early-80s, robotic sound of the funk right before the drum machine and keyboard-sequencers hit the world. Where live musicians we’re still playing the Funk, with an ultra-right and quantized feel.
Track Description: Freekbass returns with his signature funk forward sound in “Runaway” encapsulating early 80s dance floor funk with an eye on 2025 aesthetics. During this most recent Color Red session, Freekbass & The Bump Assembly envisioned capturing an early 80s robotic sound of funk right before drum machines and keyboard sequencers hit the world. Utilizing the live band featuring Freekbass on bass, Sammi Garett on vocals, Sky White on Keyboards, and Rico Lewis on drums, you hear the delivery of masterful musicians with a calculated, yet energetic quantized feel. Lyrically, “Runaway” sings to chasing after love, while also being shrouded in fanaticism. Freekbass will continue releasing one track a month for the next four months, culminating in an EP.

Track Description: "Truth and Justice” is an horn-led instrumental work that pays homage to dub and reggae giants of the past while paving the way for a new wave of musical titans. Led by bassist Dan Africano and trombonist Scott Flynn, "Truth and Justice" reunites with fellow John Brown’s Body alum, saxophonist Drew Sayers, linking seamlessly together on top of a militant drum groove and massive bass line. This heavy dub-style lead track showcases what is to come of the project and Africano and Flynn's deep-seated love for instrumental reggae. For the next three months, Death by Dub will release a new track on the first Tuesday of every month via Color Red. These single releases will be bolstered by exclusive content and culminate in a full album release.

In the early summer of 2019, the Tiger King was sitting in Jail on charges of attempted murder. At the same time, Greyhounds were touring through Denver Colorado where they stopped into Color Red Studios to record with Eddie Roberts. After a brief writing session, Andrew Trube came down into the studio with this tale of the Tiger King. At the time he was merely a myth. Now The Tiger King is a worldwide icon. And Grehounds immortalize him in their new track "Tiger King" out on Color Red Music.
