There are currently 6 planes stuck in Afghanistan with no relief coming from the US government. There are private contractors in the area who are performing rescue operations to get people out, but these 6 planes are being held hostage by the Islamist extremist group stationed in Kabul. Demands might be made for the US to recognize this extremist group as the Afghanistan governmental body before letting the flights takeoff, but even then we don't know if they will follow through with their word.
