Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue - Glacier Bay Alaska On my recent cruise to Alaska aboard the Crystal Symphony, the Coast Guard Air Station Sitka aircrew medically evacuated a fellow cruise ship passenger near Glacier Bay, Alaska, Saturday. The other passengers witnessed a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew safely hoist and transport the passenger to awaiting Emergency Medical Service personnel in Sitka. I learned later that the medevac was of a 52-year-old male reportedly suffering heart attack symptoms. After the aircrew transported the patient to Sitka, the EMS crew took him to Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital. The patient was evaluated and then flown to Seattle’s Swedish Medical Center by a Guardian Flight crew.
