There is a hurricane coming to Tampa, FL! Are we in danger? How will people prepare/store food and eat during this time??
Rest assured I don't think the storm will be that bad, the locals I've talked to seem to agree.
This is a good opportunity to talk about food and specifically the reason for processed foods. As you can see by the chart shown in the video, health care costs have skyrocketed since the moment we introduced processed foods into our diet. We sacrificed convenience for our health and are paying the price. Processed foods have only one real purpose; to keep us alive during an emergency. In emergency situations when food is scarce of course food is food and humans will eat whatever they need to survive. But more often than not in today's modern world we are not in an emergency. So why do we eat emergency foods every day of the week?
In Florida shelf stable processed foods will fly off the shelves and rightfully so. If we lose power foods in fridges and freezers will go bad and most people don't have experience gardening to make any of their own food. Nor do they have relationships with local farmers for meats/milk etc. Nor would they be able to keep those foods from going bad even if they could get them.
Folks in these situations would prob benefit a lot more from a fast than eating these toxic foods, but thats an argument for another day.
I don't believe foods are black and white so there is a purpose to alter foods for shelf stability. I just wish we would leave emergency foods for emergencies and regular foods for regular days.
