When Vika Komova became a senior gymnast in 2011, she was set set to be Russia's greatest hope in gymnastics. After current world champion Aliya Mustafina tore her ACL at the 2011 European champions, Russia still had the 2010 Youth Olympic Games champion, Komova, who was expected to win several medals at the 2011 world championships and, later, at the London 2012 Olympics.
