Due to the chip shortage I was pretty much forced to change the microcontroller I was using. Not only are STM prices through the roof but they are also out of stock most of the time. Up until now I had been selling the boards with STMs I had bought before the pandemic. This new version of the board which I named Best Improvement v1.5 uses the new RP2040 from raspberry pi foundation and it works exactly as v1, you wouldn't be able to notice any difference between the two without actually looking at the board. All the unused pins are broken out so you can use them for your own purposes. If it wasn't for shipping/customs delays this new board would have been available atleast 2 months ago already which is highly frustrating and definitely a lesson learned, boards and components will be ordered by express shipping from now on even though I feel assaulted by the amount of money express shipping companies charge to handle customs...

The most frustrating thing when you are trying to repair something is not knowing how to get it open. I do a lot of TV repairs and this one can be quite frustrating if you don't know this simple trick as no matter which tool you use you just can't pry it open, at least not without causing damage. After searching on the internet for this particular model I stumbled upon a lot of people asking for help on how to open it, when I finally found a service manual for a similar model and successfully opened it I decided to record this quick video which I believe will be useful for many technicians/hobbyists out there.
*******************************************************
Tools that make TV repair much easier/safer/faster:
*******************************************************
LCD lifting tools + magnetic supports (watch the video on the listing to understand how these tools are used, these make the repairs much safer and easier, I recommend the option "RST2 with Supports")
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DDxdpYh
High voltage LED tester (great to test entire LED strips or just single LEDs as it automatically adjusts the voltage/current, also useful to test zener diodes)
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Dk4A91F
Hot plate (makes replacing LEDs much faster and safer than using the hot air station. Because it uses a PTC element it automatically regulates the temperature)
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DdVHQCN
Assortment of TV backlight LEDs (useful to get started)
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DDkw04V
Lenses (from time to time I get a TV that has previously been "repaired" by another shop that instead of replacing the faulty LEDs just removed the lenses and jumped the LED pads with a solder blob, this means I can't properly repair if I don't have replacement lenses)

Please let me know if you find a dead link.

I got annoyed by the firmware of the original board so I made my own with firmware written from scratch (open source) and the ability to change the temperature and blower speed with potentiometers.
Available on my tindie store: https://www.tindie.com/products/randomhacks/best-bst-863-improved-control-board/
Stay tuned for the installation how to video.
